Studies in 2016 found that light pollution can disrupt sleep patterns. The researchers found, those living in urban areas with bright outdoor light, 6 percent less rest.

This compares to those who live in areas with less bright lighting.

In addition, those exposed to more lighting during the night, may experience fatigue as well as, dysfunctional dysfunction and extreme drowsiness.

#### Research at Harvard found, artificial light at night increases the risk of breast cancer.

They say, exposure to light at night can lead to reduced levels of the hormone melatonin that affects the circadian rhythms in the body. This process can increase the risk of breast cancer.

"In modern industrialized societies, artificial light is everywhere, our findings suggest, long exposure to outdoor lights during the night, could increase new risk factors for breast cancer," said researcher Peter James.

Not only that, circadian rhythm disorders arise because of artificial light. This process is associated with mood disorders, obesity, diabetes, and cancer with certain types.

Christopher Kyba from the GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences with colleagues, using data from the Suomi National Polar Orbiting Partnership or Suomi NPP.

They use the data to study the contamination of light on the surface, which causes the earth to become brighter.

The researchers found that the planet's surface became brighter at about 2 percent annually, over the past 4 years.

"We use satellite radiators that were once calibrated to show light at night from 2012 to 2016. The bright open areas of the earth, increased by 2.2 percent annually," the study said.
