BLOCKCHAIN EXPLAINED WITHOUT COMPUTER (BLOCKCHAIN 101)

in #blockchain8 years ago

Few years ago, BlockChain technology was something known only by Software developers, Tech Experts and Computer Enthusiasts. This is mostly attributed to the huge technicalities and confusing terminologies it is linked with.

Block chain is a hard concept to explain because it requires a thorough understanding of cryptography or perhaps a beyond basic comprehension of cryptography, computer software applications and an open mind.

Have you picked up a white paper before during the early days of your sojourn on Cryptography?... How was it like comprehending the details of the White paper amidst the technical terms involved?
I want to try something today...I would introduce the basics of block chain theories using a "No Computer-related concept".

BLOCKCHAIN MADE EASY; EXPLAINING THE CONCEPT OF BLOCKCHAIN WITHOUT A COMPUTER

Imagine I lived in a small village with peasant farmers and fishermen as the populace, without any formal knowledge whatsoever. All willing to adopt this trending concept if I could convince them clearly.

I happen to be the King of this Village and I am fed up with the challenges posed by my Community in exchanging goods and services easily.
I summoned the Elders for a town hall meeting which is aimed at informing them about my proposed decision to adopt a single currency devoid of any manipulations which is targeted at ensuring a swift and easy business transactions.

HERE IS MY IDEA
I will introduce a Coin called (YesCoin) which will be usable in my community of 200 people myself included from the last census conducted.

This coin means a lot to my community plus my reputation will be at stake if it goes contrary to the set plans.

I told the Elders that YesCoin will be devoid of any third party, central authority, and free from monopoly by any emperor nor myself as the head....You will all be your own banks

Remember, a currency needs a record of balances and transactions. This will in effect, ensure a user has a certain balance and can send part of that balance to someone else in order to purchase goods or services.

I told the Elders that every person in the village will be a record-keeper because I want to full transparent transactions when implemented. I do not want to put trust in a single person or institution because such person/institution could be manipulative or become malicious and screw us all.

I will also give everyone a large amount of paper to continually record every transactions that happens.
Once the record keeping foundation for the currency to exist is established, I will create a peer-to-peer network where everyone is equal. Everybody in the community will have the same papers and the same record keeping abilities that anyone around has.

I will test run first before the presence of the community to ensure an understanding of the concept by all and transparency.
I ask a volunteer to write on the first sheet of paper. I will assign 2000 YesCoin. The volunteer will then tell the community that this transaction just happened and they will all record it in their papers as well.
The tested token which was recorded is shared equally among the community for free.
Later, Coins begins to circulate around the village and people start making transactions to buy food, clothing, etc.
The records of transactions by everyone remains valid.

At any point in time, you can check the papers of each member and see that they have the same history of transactions sequel to the first experimented record.
People love this new currency because it is transparent and fair. As the population grows, more members join the network. The network ensures scalability to potentially any size as the community expands.

Lastly, I informed the members of about a proposal to meet with other village heads to adopt similar idea like ours though thus time, with their own currency. This would be easily exchanged with ours during any business transaction with a record of the transactions effected.

WOULDN'T YOU BE A HAPPY CITIZEN OF THE VILLAGE? NO EMPEROR CONTROLS YOUR MONEY, YOU ARE YOUR OWN BANK AND THE SYSTEM IS TRANSPARENT
