Two Meter Sessions, a place for music nostalgia.
Hi Steemians! Today I would like to expose you to another great source for music. This time it's a real gem if you are interested in rare recordings of your favorite artists.
The so-called Two Meter Sessions(Twee Meter Sessies) is a radio and TV program that is regularly broadcasted in the Netherlands since 1987. The concept of the Two Meter Sessions is to invite artists to a recording studio for an interview and a recording session (more on the two meter sessions' history here).
The no pressure atmosphere during these sessions often resulted in very intimate interviews and MTV-Unplugged-like recordings. A nice example is this recording of the Foo Fighters, which was recorded back in 1999.
There are also some artists that were recording at a very early stage of their career. This led to some footage that turned out to be rare nowadays. Take for instance this recording of the Cranberries shot in 1993. It turned out to be the first time ever for the Cranberries to play in front of a camera in a different country other than Ireland!
It's really interesting to see these artists perform at such a young age! Especially when you compare it with a Tiny Desk Recording of the Cranberries shot almost 20 years later in 2012!
Appart from this unique time-traveling feature, the list of recordings done through the two meter sessions are truly impressive. There have been literally thousands of recordings made since 1987, and they are still doing it! The full database can be found here. Although the database is just a list of all the artists, it is very likely that you can find the actual video (if taken) is available on youtube.
One of my personal favorites is this recording of Rany Newman playing his song "I Miss You". Especially his explanation about the song, right before he starts is for some reason really intense. The video starts with the presenter of the show talking in Dutch, Rany Newman actually explaining the song starts at 1:35.
I can really appreciate the work done within the Two Meter Session. It is priceless material if you'd ask me. I hope you guys can enjoy it too!
