RE: Will we finally see the first plastic-less water bottle hit the market?
Yes, microplastics are going to be the biggest health danger in the next decades! It's going to be everywhere. It's going to be in everything around us. It's going to be (or is already) in our food. We will be spending a lot of effort cleaning water and foods in order to keep it out of our systems.
Governments are only slowly starting to realize this. Very slowly legislation to reduce plastic use is being proposed. We need to hurry with this! Unfortunately, the plastic-wasting industries (food packaging etc.) has no interest in spending additional money to find alternatives to plastic.
Choose Water is a very good initiative. It a first step. The fact that they keep their secret liner secret, however, is a bit tricky! I hope this won't prevent the big companies from using this technology.
I think a company like Coca-Cola has no interest in spending additional money on their packaging. This would put negative pressure on their profits. And you know how these companies operate.
Unless there is enough demand from consumers, they won't pay for this new technology I think.
I really like the Choose Water bottle concept though. I really hope to see these bottle in my local grocery store sooner than later!

Yeah, microplastic will be a huge issue in the years to come! Right now we don't really have any information about how it affects the body either, but there is reason to believe that it could be harmful to humans. There are some studies being done to find out how it affects the body these days, so it will be "exciting" to learn how dangerous it actually turns out to be.
And you're right about the industry not wanting to find another product to use instead of plastic, since plastic is extremely cheap, and also very durable and versatile.
We really need to see how this Choose water bottle plays out. Since it won't be more expensive than a regular bottle of water, there is potential, but of course that could just be because they have a lower profit per sold bottle compared to other soft drinks and water bottle.
