Astronomical Art Update! My Kickstarter Success Story ("Orion" acrylic on canvas painting)
It has been a month since I joined Steemit and a year, since I ran my successful Kickstarter campaign! I needed some supplies, so I took a chance and 15 wonderful patrons offered their support and I raised $1200! I used that money to buy my supplies and then made a show, which was exhibited at my local Art Gallery. This piece is called "Orion"
Orion’s Belt is perhaps the most prominent and identifiable constellation, observable with the naked eye. It is familiar and brings me peace. It has been the object of great scrutiny in the past. It has helped to improve our understanding of star formations and planetary systems. It is a symphony of collapsing clouds and dust. So vast, yet so still. I was inspired by my love of the constellation, to paint the Orion Nebula. I compiled and created this image from my understanding of the diffuse nebula. Countless reference photos helped me to come to this understanding. I enjoyed the abstract approach of painting this piece. It is a recognizable entity, however the painting is derived from my own perception and not literal. I used rhythm and splatter and feeling to paint this. It is a progression of my style. I used to attempt perfection, in vain. Portraying space clouds and nebulae frees me from the paralyzing perfection of having to get something “just right”.
