Forgive me! I've been weak! I succumbed to the temptation of Facebork!
I say it time and time again, don't get sucked in! And time and time again, there I go, sucked into the drama, the silly, time-wasting ridiculousness of it all!
Apologies - I should have mentioned - sourced from Google
I'm procrastinating and I shouldn't be! There are so many things I want to write, so many characters screaming at me to take up their story and continue with it.
I'm sorry. It will never happen again (except we know it most certainly will happen again).
I got caught up in one silly, time-wasting group and I became annoyed at the questions, the endless requests for help from people claiming to be writers, but have no intention of writing anything but mind-numbing questions on facebork.
Questions like:
Do you need a degree to be a writer?
Where do your writing starts first?
A.Mind
B.Paper
C.Keyboard.
Can a sentence change someone's life?
If you are emotionally broke, what will you write as a title of your book?
Christian Writers, do you use religion in your stories?
Do you think a book should be written in the 1st person or 3rd person - and why?
Can someone give me an idea for a story?
Posts like:
Comment a BOOK that changed your LIFE
If you want to be a writer, you must write exactly like Stephen King.
I need help with the name of my characters...
And then...
I need help with the plot, the location, the storyline and everything else.
Then there are the declarations of intent:
I'm planning a story...
I'm writing / researching / plotting / hoping for...
And you just know the ONLY reason they're on Facebook at all is to ask banal questions in the hopes that they can feel better about themselves because they are not the only one not writing.
The only answer to the question:
How do I become a writer?
Is this:
Good post , nice photography . Keep good work .
I resteem your post on my blog .
Your post is always different i follow your blog and upvote everytime , your post is so helpful . I always inspire of your post on my steem work . Thank you for sharing @michelle.gent
I have a book I am yet to complete. I have paused in writing it for about a year now. I keep willing myself I will continue but I find myself not going back to it. How do I self motivate?
I often read books to keep me motivated, such as Joseph Princes’, but then I get buried in the other book and fail to make the motivation carry me in with the former
The only person to get you to finish that book is you. I'm sorry, that's the harsh reality. You either finish it or you don't, but that is down to you.
Good Luck! I know how difficult it is.
I will really have to try to get back to it.
Thank you @michelle.gent
@tomilolafadipe Don't try, do it! It's important! And it's so easy to give up. I know how it feels. Do it for you! There's no better feeling to finish it anyways!
Btw. A book that helped me a lot was "the war of art" by Pressfield - it gave me a great understanding how I'm manipulating myself. Not to sit down. But to procrastinate.
Sit down, do the work. That's the battle of any writer. ;) And what a rewarding feeling it is, when you win it!
@michelle.gent great post. Loved it. And look forward to read your future posts!
LOL! Well, if you're going to waste time on "Facebork", at least waste it on something worthwhile .... if you haven't seen the posts for "Canuck and I", do check it out. Canuck is a 'rescue' crow, Sean is his "adopted dad", and they live in Vancouver, Canada. Canuck is 3 years old and just this year has a mate, "Cassiar" .... and for the first time, they have babies in the nest - Canuck is now a papa!
Now, that's a good reason to procrastinate (no, it isn't, but it's fun)! :)
Most of those questions stem from the fear of failure. When you start writing, you will be forced to read the rubbish you write. And to see that rubbish and still keep at it requires some amount of courage.
When you don't have that, you have a million reasons to not write!
I think its their insecurities talking , most times you write and then after a few weeks tou go back and read that piece and feel like its not good enough.....most people end up discouraged
There is a reason I never joined FaceFork! Waste of time. I have better things to do with my life. I have a life! Just think...I now have Steemit where I can get paid for being me! LOL
Yup, always worked for me :You sit down and you write. Although there are times when my mind is elsewhere, and yet my fingers are itching to type!
God bless you Michelle, you are taking the rough with the smooth and to think it's you giving the help.
I like to observe, study your style and try to work things out myself, plus to be fair, you've given so much of your knowledge already Shell, so maybe concentrate on yourself more. The silly questions would drive me nuts!
I should write more, like you stories play in my head but I keep getting distracted....its a bad thing. I enjoy your writing very much. You are so correct, you just sit down and you write.
upvoted resteemed.
Oh dear! I took off writing but after a few days away, I could barely write two hundred words.
Your post, though more than seven days now, has given me the boost I need. I WILL definitely write again today.
