The Monster We Have Become
I remember, cherish and act upon the fine values I learned from my parents. And my parents got their values from their parents, and so on. I appreciate the goodness I was taught and learned. Throughout my life I've intersected my taught values with my discovered ones. Today I live and act from both. Due to this inherent goodness I think I'm in an okay position as a person living on earth -- they’ll like me in heaven and they know I’d change hell!
Sort of like what I’m doing today--lol!
Respect, freedom and creativity rooted in love are what I would call my guiding lights. Others might see guiding lights rooted in career advancement and/or opportunity. But this is aligned into a stringency. To me, life need not be so stringent. Respect creates opportunity and creativity provides fair choices. What we need is the freedom to allow this.
This in mind, I'm struck by the this ideal: Look back upon the wisdom of your elders, those who came before you. I think if we really did this well, we'd not be living like we do today.
We've Turned Into Monsters!
We Need To Tame The Beast Within Us!
We've become the worst kind of monster, one capable of destroying the whole planet!
How come, why?
First, there are two ways to look upon our past, something we need always do in order to know how our values evolved.
[Scaringly, as an aside, artificial intelligence likely is on this objective.]
Essentially, there are two important views into the past: a) Imperial rulers, monarchies, regimes and mob control; and b) Indigenous people living tribal with and from the land. The French eventually introduced freedom and the power of emperors and monarchs diminished and democracy began taking hold. But this also paved the way for crude capitalism which decimated Indigenous populations as we sought the resources from their lands.
According to the UK-based Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) today there exist 19 full democracies, 57 flawed democracies, 39 hybrid regimes and 52 authoritarian regimes. The United States is rated a flawed democracy. We share this designation with former pre-Cold War eastern nations like Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia and Serbia.
The EIU presently has Russia and China ranked as authoritarian regimes but EIU leaves out that The Chinese Dream has virtually replaced The American Dream. In the future, the EIU must rank China differently. Also, just my personal opinion, I think Russia always gets short shrift in the world of western analysis. It’s also noteworthy to point out that Russia and China are more closely aligned than ever before, with China strong on economics and Russia strong on military (its recently been noted Russia’s new weaponry is dazzling).
If comparing military, The US and Russia stand like two Blutos, while China with its powerful economic engines behaves like a Popeye. China has burgeoning economic development projects across the globe and more in the pipeline (see China--The Belt Road Initiative). Concerning the two Blutos, the US has over 900 military bases worldwide while Russia has only a dozen mostly close to its borders with three or four ‘em in Syria.
America, sadly, prides itself on being the bigger Bluto!
While Russia has used its military to preserve its borders, the US has used its military to aid corporate expansionism. That’s the way it’s been. But it won’t quite be like this in the future. With Russia and China aligned the US bully status becomes inhibited, different from its customary easy-go exploitation of the past. The US today is getting its first hint of this from its current challenges in the Middle East.
The monster = war, money and privilege. This is cloaked in a presumptive lure of freedom. The extent of education for our children has become: They are bad; we are good! History books have been fixed. We only see one side of our past and amend it to fit our our greed and need. Wrong way to go! Those aren’t the values my parents bestowed upon me!
Hope For Our Future!
I submit today the most important political movement on the planet is the Indigenous Peoples Movement. We need to look to it for a true sense of the past so better meet our future. They are a civilization of, by and for the earth. I think in a Native culture when a child is taught to share they continue. In the rat race America has become, when a child is taught to share it sadly morphs into keep.
If you consider the amazing technologies we have developed today there is absolutely no reason why we can’t improve the lives of everyone. Why don’t we?
It’s time to end the part of our history that bred monsterism. Down with the emperors, monarchs, regimes and no more mob control. End the wars and celebrate life. I was taught to do this, why can’t you?
