Showing me the view.

Zeb and his mate fetching me for a run.

Had my local Zebras come fetch me at home to go out on trails with them. They said I had not been for a while and was wondering where I was. So they came to fetch me. lol

Zeb showing the way back to the hills.

They knocked on the door this morning asking why I had not visited them for a while. So proceeded to drag me out the house and on the trails.

Zeb comes right to the front door to say hi.

I followed them out to the mountains to do an early morning run and play with them for a little while. I soon realised what I had been missing. The holidays do tend to make you slow down and become a tad bit lazy, I have finally managed, I think, to get back on track with regards to getting out there. I have started planning my races for the year and also even managed to register for the ones I never miss. My most favourites of all the races in KwaZulu, are the Rhino Run, Table Mountain, 1000hills, Mandela Day, and most of the Balito beach runs.

The look of love.

He took me to the mountain top to remind me of what I have been missing.

This is out in KwaZulu-Natal in the Queens Park reserve. These are my old running buddies. They just had some babies so the family is growing and always great to spot them all together. They are very protective over the little ones, and if you come too close they would form a virclecaround them just to let you know how close you are allowed.

Love this reserve, it is one of my favourite spots to go for a run either on a Saturday or Sunday, as it is a fairly easy one and has some great views and also the chnaces of bumping in to an old friend(Zebra, Buck, Dassies, etc) is high. The reserve itself is not a very big one. The trails are both road and single tracks and if you go all the way you would get around 10km before circling back around. So it is great for a short run.

The beautiful rolling hills of KwaZulu is always green and lush. We have summer rain which is a welcome relief from the humid weather lately there has been a shortage of rain in the area, but it seems to be getting better and the rains seem to be returning for now. We do need ot to bring our dam levels back up so always appreciate it when we have a few days of constant rainfall.

Happy Weekend everyone. Find the beauty around you.

About Queen Elizabeth Nature Reserve

The Queen Elizabeth Nature Reserve serves as the headquarters of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, KwaZulu-Natal’s nature conservation service.

Did you know? The popular iDube trail is a circular self-guided hiking trail found within the reserve - visitors are welcome to enjoy walking it.

Situated in Hilton on the northern slopes of Pietermaritzburg, the nature reserve is home to many beautiful species, including impala, blesbok, zebra, bushbuck, dassies, grey and blue duiker and crowned eagles.

The park not only offers views of all these aforementioned wild animals, it also contains numerous indigenous and exotic plants. Several cycad species and endangered daisies can also be found occurring naturally in the grasslands.

There is no accommodation within the reserve but day visitors are welcome to make use of three picnic areas with braai and ablution facilities and its easy to find a place to stay in Hilton.

Within the reserve you will find a small resource centre that offers regular environmental education workshops throughout the year.
