My experience with high doses of niacin for three months

in #health7 years ago

I read positive things about niacin so I decided to take 3000 mg (3 grams) daily for three months.

Niacin also known as vitamin B3 is water soluble, so it is in and out. It is found in low amounts in coffee, but it is also found in foods.

My goals were to see what impact it had on cholesterol, and allergies.

"Allergies?"

Yep, niacin may cause the 'niacin flush' which is vasodilation, urticaria (itching), warmth, redness, sometimes I would have 'splotches' of elevated, red, warm skin; hives. My nose would also run at times, and my eyes would itch. I would shiver as my core body temperature would drop as the vasodilation and increased blood flow released the heat. It made going outside on particularly warm days easier.

This flush could take anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour to kick in, and nearly last the same amount of time. I took 1000mg three times per day. Sometimes the flush happened, sometimes it did not.

The itching associated with the niacin flush is due to dumping of histamines, and prostaglandins. My allergy symptoms decreased!

My cholesterol which had been slightly over 200 for years; dropped! It went to 166.

The concerned me, because total cholesterol has to be >165 in order to have antioxidant protective effects! I cholesterol is demonized, but it is the backbone of our hormones, and makes cell membranes.

The flush would start at my scalp, and descend my face, shoulders and down. My scalp and perineum would get warm, and stay that way, it's curious those are locations of root and crown chakras. Maybe there's a connection.

All in all, I enjoyed the higher dose niacin experience. It made cold showers feel warm...lowered cholesterol, made me a red hot lover...

What was the purpose of this experiment? I mean what are the benefits other than a cold shower feeling warm? I have heard about niacin, but nothing more. It's interesting tough, maybe I will try this if it helps "flush" the system

I used it as a natural antihistamine, the cholesterol drop was a bonus.

Aha, I see. Then I probably have no use for it since I don't have any allergies :) Good it worked!

There are more benefits, don't dismiss using it, there is more to it.

Niacin also heals depression. Are you familiar with Dr. Andrew Saul's work? He's written extensively about niacin. Great stuff, but that flush can be uncomfortable. Flush-free niacin is available but I've never tried it.

I have heard of that, and there is likely merit to it! Proof is, that it is marginalized by mainstream medicine. Compliance seems to be an issue as the flush bothers individuals.

That is almost all the proof we need! I've learned from much experience that the opposite of what the mainstream medical complex tells you is the truth.

We agree, trust me, I've been in the mouth of the lion. Medical training is programming and brainwashing! It is useful only in badly broken body situations. It is not health maintenance, it's disease maintenance!
