--- Cars - Different Makes But Same Model ?!?! ---

Source
Recently i wrote and article which referenced Toyota and Subaru both have the same vehicle in their line, this raised some questions for some and complete disbelief in others. The fact is that many vehicle manufacturers do this kind of cross breeding contamination right in front of our faces and we miss it... sometimes.
The full list of the cars in question in the article are Toyota FT86, Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S, 'Lexus LFT-86' and just for the hella it lets have a little bit of a recap on that situation.
However this is not the first time this has happened and i also doubt that this would be the last time either... so lets have a look at some of the other times this kind of thing has happened at really obvious levels and some less noticeable ones.
In the examples below they are literally the exact same vehicles which are just stamped with the different makes, most parts are interchangeable (however may have different part numbers) and clearly even share the same repair manuals.
Toyota Camry & Holden Apollo.

Toyota Lexcen & Holden Commodore

Next up we will look at some vehicles which have some aesthetic differences, but share the same base chassis motor options etc. these differences can also include some hardware such as suspension turbo etc. but fundamentally they are the same vehicle and again parts are interchangeable.
Ford Laser & Mazda 323

Lets have a closer look at these models shall we? many of the cues are pretty obvious from the tail light and spoiler design on the rear, but there is also some considerable liberties taken in other areas such as the front end with vents and grills etc. However its not hard to see that these are the same vehicle when we take a good look at the cars side by side. Again the hardware such as engine and driveling options vary etc. but its all the same kind of gear just relabeled. This is just one example of the Ford Mazda crossovers in this range of vehicles.

Next up we will look at the Mitsubishi Mirage and the Proton Satria cross overs, these two vehicles again have very similar design which can bee seen on closer inspection, the body styling adopts some differences in headlights, tail lights and spolier options. Hardware wise they both sport the same engine depending on low end or top end model, the proton boasts its 'lotus suspension' in the GTi. Some of the clear differences in the headlights and tail lights become far less apparent in the "Cyborg R" model of the Mitsubishi Mirage where we can quite clearly see the connection between the two.

So as you can see there is quite a bit of cross contamination between car manufacturers, the stories of these things happening are quite varied in nature, but it all comes down to money, ease of manufacture, not being able to pay bills with cash and supplementing with parts, etc.
All in all it is an incestuous cesspool and always has been, this is why many parts can be exchanged between vehicles that, to many, would seem have no relation to one another in accordance to the make and model of he vehicle. There are many more out there which fall into the same categories as mentioned above... interesting right ? know a few more? post em in the comments section.

The new Mercedes Ute is basically a Nissan Navara, isn't it?
These sorts of things go on more and more - one of the Jags was a Ford Mondeo not too long ago as well?
could be @holoz0r these tthings go on far more than many of us realize, show us pics of the ones you have noticed.
