Story

The film takes place in 2035, ten years after the invasion by the Kaijū could be averted. The Pan Pacific Defense Corps' fighter program has grown to become the most powerful global defense force in human history and research into Kaijū and new weapon systems is in full swing. Above all, the researchers Dr. Newton Geiszler and his colleague Dr. Hermann Gottlieb are active here. It is thanks to them that the next generation of fighter pilots is equipped with high-tech defence systems. As in the first part, the huge combat robots are controlled simultaneously by 2 people. 2 people who have the special ability, who are compatible with each other, so that their neural structures can be synchronized with each other (so called "Drift").
Here the main protagonists Jake Pentecost, the son of Stacker Pentecost (died in a battle in the first part), Mako Mori and Nate Lambert come into play.
And so it comes as it has to come and the hunters go back into battle...

In addition to the fight against Kaijū, the film once again revolves around the conflict of a son who follows in his father's footsteps and thus meets the demands he has to meet.
The story isn't really new, but the character of Jake Pentecost (played by John Boyega) is built up very well in the movie. With his charismatic and at the same time "gnarly" nature he travels the viewer to his side. Likewise, Cailee Spaeny shines in the role of Amara Namani with a very good acting performance.
In the end, the story is "flat" and not really thrilling. Also, in my opinion, the follow-up movies of a series always have the disadvantage that they are measured at the first part and therefore don't get along very well. But "Pacific Rim: Uprising" is extremely worth seeing just because of its excellently animated and monumental pictures and the impressive effects, as well as the camera work and guarantees an action-packed 2 hour spectacle.
