Bowl

I didn’t realize I wasn’t a Football fan anymore until the San Diego Chargers became the Los Angeles Chargers.

The news came out and My Facebook newsfeed was filled with sadness and grief, pain and anger. I was stunned.

People really care that much about the Chargers? About football? They’re just going up the street really.

But the crowd had spoken and they were angry. They were throwing away perfectly warm jackets and hats that still blocked the sun.

They claimed we were slighted and that even the new logo was Anti-San Diego fandom, as if the rest of the world can tell Southern California apart from Southern California.

As if they didn’t realize that football was a form of modern day slavery. Become a millionaire. All you have to do is die young and of brain disease. Perhaps when suicide time comes, people will remember what a great linebacker you were.

Go #55!

I still celebrate the super bowl of course. I fill my grocery cart with chips and drinks on sale and other nonsense snacks that I say I don’t love and bring them all home. Ice cream and cupcakes and football shaped napkins.

Then we go to the park or the mall or anywhere without a tv. We snack and play, enjoying all the extra parking and space because most people are home watching grown men beat in each other for “fun”.

Thank you for stopping by. This was my response to @mariannewest’s freewrite prompt

Aw I particularly loved the ending ! 100% agree with you on that one- bowls for snacks!

I was glad when the chargers left!! so ridiculous to use tax money to support them while the owners (and players) make tons of money. And when not enough tickets were sold for a game, San Diego couldn't even watch it on TV. Really?
I don't like that sport and don't ever watch it, but that felt like the height of injustice.

My dad was a hardcore football fan and my mom was too. I didn't seem to catch that excitement growing up. All I wanted to do was watch Anthony Perkins Wild Kingdom. What can I say? I never could understand the chase for the pig skin. Nice job with your freewrite!

Thanks for stopping by. There’s a reason they play football for us on Sundays, it’s as if they want to sell it to us as religion.

That's very possible!
