The unselfish woman
There once was a very rich man who did not mind giving anything to people who wanted it.
He was not the type of man who cared about earthly stuff, as he lived in a house where he grew up and it was not in the best part of town. He did not care because he was happy. All the people knew that he was rich as they had known him since childhood.
If someone asked him for something he always gave them what they wanted and never thought about it again.
One day he came across an old lady sitting in a chair falling apart. She was very poor and she lived in this chair. When she saw him she felt to ashamed. She did not want him to see her condition and hid her head so that she did not have to face him.
He walked nearer and touched her face, but she pulled away and he left.
Later when she got up she saw that he had left a lot of money at her feet. She felt so bad that she did not even speak to him.
She took the money and at first she did not know what to do with it. She had never seen so much money in her whole life.
She sat down again and thought about it. It came to her with a sudden realisation that she was not the only one in the area that was poor.
She left her chair and started walking down the street, looking for the other people she knew that was just as poor.
When she found them all they sat around her chair and they decided together, to buy a house and all move in there.
They would make it liveable and get other people to come and live there that had problems.
This house became the neighbourhood's haven for those in need.
They could really help so many people with all this money that they never had trouble finding food or anything again. They only helped the elderly, because they taught the younger people how to read and write.
This meant they could send them to university and that way they could help other people again.
One day this old lady ran into the man who gave her all the money and she said. I would love to give you something for being so good to me. He said:"No I really don’t want anything as I have everything I want."
No she said: " I want to give you a record of what happened to the money you gave me. It has made many people happy and it is helping young people to get some training. These people have become doctors and lawyers and they are all helping out in the poorer areas where people need help and cannot afford it. So that is what I want to give to you. The wonder of the blessing you gave to all of us."
She gave him a big hug and he has never felt that good in his life as this was not what he thought she was going to do with the money.
They walked together to the house that she had bought and she introduced him to all the people living there, and for the first time in his life his was really thankful as he felt that this was the best money he had ever spent.
