Break in at school
Our school really needed a painting job and some things that had to be fixed as you all know nothing lasts forever if we do not look after it. So during the school holidays the department of education sent a team to paint and quite a few things to be fixed in the administration building.
They had promised me that it would be finished, when the school term start but it was not and they still had a few things to do. The reason was that the weather did not always play with as it was winter holiday.
We had bought a house right next to the school that was very nice for me so I could always keep an eye out while they were working. When the new team started we decided that there was a long weekend just 2 weeks away, and they could come and finish everything over that weekend. We as a family went to visit my wife’s parents for that long weekend. They lived about 4 hours from us and it was the perfect time as we did not have to stay to long. Ha, Ha, Ha.
The Friday before the weekend started I took my secretary to bank all the money in the safe as we had school funds, money from the tuck shop and money that teachers were trying to get together for some projects that they wanted to do with their classes. One of our rules was that we never bank at the same time, and never take the same route. I use to go with the ladies as I was always worried that they could be robbed. I was the only one who kept the key for the big door of the safe and the rest were kept for the people who kept their money there in smaller safety boxes.
Everything worked out fine until I walked into the school on the Tuesday and saw that our safe was broken into. I would have probably heard but was visiting the wife’s family. Someone had used an angle grinder to go through the safe door and open it.
Fortunately for me we had banked and there was not much in the safe of value. The only thing they could get was an old school projector that we used when we showed the kids some films on maybe a Friday afternoon.
I phoned the police immediately and they took all of our prints. This was to eliminate anyone working in the safe. I told them that the people, who had finished the last bit of work, worked over the weekend.
They got them together and truly 2 of the men working there had fingerprints inside the safe, which was impossible if they did not break in. They only got the projector as we had banked all the money and stuff which would have been thousands of rand, as parents were paying their school tuition and we had a lot of money in the safe.
So these poor guys had to go to jail and that for not much. We were all very happy except of course the thieves. They really thought that they were going to get thousands from the safe.
Have a wonderful day here from the Wild Coast.
