Are Newbie-Promoting Commutities a Scam?
Let's face it... content is worth money, but your vote is worth more. Oftentimes content is produced just to attract votes in order to drive up that payout potential. Some will say that it's what we're here for, but others will counter that we should be creating content about the subjects we know and enjoy talking about. Neither side is right, but there seems to be another category of content emerging that is akin to a Ponzi scheme. Exploitation of the minnow class.
I've noticed quite a few minnow and noob support communities and trails coming up and I'm sure that most have the best of intentions. However, there are a few users that see the groups as an exploitative force. When you need upvote, resteem, and comment on the community leaders posts or be put out of the group, you're being taken advantage of. It may not seem like much because as a minnow you only throw around the weight of a couple of cents, but taking in large numbers of minnow votes and followers, compounded by the fact that many of the posts seem to be double and triple nothing-burgers and you have yourself a ponzi scheme being erected in front of your eyes. It's the hope of gains that attract users to the groups and, possibly, the knowledge of the fact that many of the new users quit steeming in discouragement that allows the leaders of the groups to continue to profit. Yes, of a necessity some must see the trickle down so as not to expose the ruse. Look at it from all sides, oh good-natured and trusting Steemian.
Sound off in the comments with the groups that are known to be trustworthy and why. The minnows will thank you with their upvotes. Just like they offer them up in hopes of a ROI.
I think it's fairly simple. Be wary if they ask for something in return.
I really would think that users would see it that way as well... I think the problem lies in the fact that the new users don't really understand how it works with the 3 currencies, the way they work in concert with one another, and how getting rep and SP really affects this platform. I know it's all been put out in the open for the noobs to get educated by those before them in the FAQ's and guides, but it doesn't seem like they read that material. Instead we see F4F and these Ponzi-type groups. I think it's similar to a local political leader offering up promises for their constituency and then delivering just a nibble each election cycle. Just enough to stay in power and seem legitimately concerned about their supporters.
Thanks for the info. I am pretty new to the site, I've been on it for a month. Been doing more reading about this topic to get myself educated. Thanks for the insight.
Thanks for taking the time to read my work and for the comment. I am new as well and trying to find the best methods to get my work seen.
I think good, consistent content is king! That's what I have been trying to do. I put a lot of effort to make sure my posts are quality. :) Hope that helps!
My main issue is keeping or getting content in front of people's eyes. There seems to be a bit of a dynamic to that involving rep, SP and the time the post is made. Trying to find the ideal times to post right now. Rep is moving up on it's merit at it's own pace.
I agree. I think that is something everyone constantly struggles with when you are new. That's why I try to post once a day. It increases the chances of being discovered rather than just posting once a week. I'm sure with time and hard effort, it will pay off! I totally believe in Steemit and what it has to offer. Just keep your chin up.
Interesting point of view, I partially agree with your analysis, but upvoted anyway ;).
Thanks for the upvote and for reading my work. I welcome differing views, and I'm happy to be partially right rather than be totally wrong. 😁
