The Magic of the Reef

Located along the west coast of Australia, covering the entire area of the Straigth Towers, south of Papua, New Guinea, to the Tropic of Capricorn (2,000 kilometers long), the Great Barrier Reef is considered a natural wonder of the world, and it is not hard to find out why. The magnitude of its structure - the reef can even be seen from space - and the varied charms it offers to divers, those who snorkel and the sailing enthusiasts, make it one of the most important destinations on Earth.

Learn to Dive in Tropical Waters

The three most popular places to learn to dive are Airlie Beach, Townsville and Cairns. There are several diving schools and most offer different programs that cover from beginners to advanced, rescue and dive master programs.

Your Big Size

The great geological stability maintained by this reef is due to its large size and very favorable ocean currents, such as the Australian ones. It is important to note that the ideal temperature for the coral in this area is below 21 ° Celsius. Yes, they are very warm and pleasant waters for most of the species that inhabit it.
We cannot forget the great influence of winds from the southeast, as they hit the outer edge of the reef for more than half of the year, providing as a great benefit to these waters the organic material necessary to maintain coral life.

Variety of animals

This great paradise hosts countless species of whales, dolphins and porpoises. In addition to an incredible number of sea turtles that annually reach the north and south of the reef.
You would not believe that this reef also houses saltwater crocodiles, but do not be scared, they live only in the swamps and mangroves and on a coast near the reef.
Fish, sea horses, frogs, birds, sea snakes are some of the varieties of animals that are present in these beautiful coasts.

Global Warming ravages

Only in 2018 was a truly incredible reduction in species, according to studies conducted there was a decrease of 93% of species due to global warming.
Global warming is a constant threat that is felt more and more and with greater impact. The death of adult corals does not allow the new corals to develop, and the change in temperatures causes the collars to expel the algae that give them their color, which leads to the phenomenon of "whitening of collars" 2016 is taking place in these waters.
The only solution to this great environmental catastrophe is to reduce carbon emissions by human beings and energy industries by replacing them with renewable energies.
Together we can make the change, we are not part of that population that does not care about the environment, remember that this is our planet and together we must team up to achieve an environmental harmony where we can all live.

Life under water is really amazing

Are you an English teacher, Miss @MerrysLamb?

Not me, but my mom yes

I have seen and dived the Great Barrier Reef. Suffice it to say the greatest threat to the GBR is arguably not global warming but the Australian government's continued poor and self-interested environmental decisions. :( And things like sunscreen, which pollute the pristine waters with their endocrine disrupting chemicals. This is such a complex subject - than you for raising it! So little contributed on @ecotrain about the health of our oceans, seas and reefs. More please! :)

@ecoTrain

ooooh have a very polite way of saying that my post was not worth the effort I put into it. Anyway, thanks.
