Setting goals and making things happen
I truly believe
that we can manifest anything in our lives
with the power of positive thinking.
that we can manifest anything in our lives
with the power of positive thinking.
The outpouring of love and support from my online family has been extraordinary and you are all responsible for keeping my spirits up. Over the weekend I've never felt my confidence wane. In fact, I got busy really working on the things that I want to do - for love and money.
Look at the new Steemit avatar I made for myself!
Visit Cartoonify to get your own. I added the Steemit logo and my username in Photoshop.
I love it
Acknowledgments
When I wrote "And just like that..." I was so dumbfounded by what had just transpired in my life that I sincerely didn't know what to do with myself.
Thunderstruck would be a great word to describe it. So I reached out and this is what I got.

I was most touched by the nearly 3:1 ratio of views to comments!
The outpouring of love and positive reinforcement has really kept me out of depression's grip and given me the moral support to formulate a plan - at least for my near future.
I want to acknowledge all 369 viewers and participants in 117 comments. There really are too many to list in a single post but I appreciate every single one of you - from new reader to "old" Steemit friend.

The Strange Dream
| So last night I had a dream about standing in front of a huge cage with otters chattering and running around being adorable. I remember laughing because I felt like I was in the cartoon where I used my finger to plug a hole in the dam as yet another leak pops out of nowhere. | ![]() image source |

Well that was me trying to corral a whole bunch of mischievous, happy fur babies. Just as I was returning one to the cage another was escaping as I laughed and played this game over and over again.
What I'm doing
Over the weekend I spent two solid days getting caught up on a lot of Steemit blogs, responding with comments. Let's just say that was my down time.
I've been diligently overhauling my personal website to incorporate my personal and professional portfolio to relaunch my freelancing business. It's going to include some of my Steemit articles in a centralized location for some helpful tips in blogging.
I recorded two soon-to-be released podcast episodes with a good friend of mine. They're in post production right now. More details on that in a future post
Also been storyboarding a vlog that I'll be launching on YouTube by this weekend.
But the one thing I haven't done until this very moment is write a Steemit blog post!
An experiment in progress

But with the unexpected loss of my job, I'm going to begin claiming 50/50 rewards as an experiment to see what I can potentially earn.
I have no intention of powering down. Frankly, I would only power down if I had to decide between food or hunger. I'm not to that point.
If I'm going to spend any more significant time on Steemit, I'd be foolish not to consider it as part of my online earning portfolio. So, while I have applications out and wait for interviews, I need to track and see how realistic this is for supplemental income.

So, I have a question for you...
When you set goals do you shoot for the moon and hope you land among the stars or do you shoot for the minimum goal and anything more is bonus?

Join my curation trail on Streemian

I'm glad to see you doing so well in Steemit.
I often have a big goal, but then set smaller goals to get to the big one.
Hi @neoxian
It's funny. My big goal is actually for simplified living - some land, small farm, and large garden, which is more work but better for my peace of mind. So, I guess that's my big goal but now I need to figure out how to get there. A lot of the things I'm doing right now might be considered hobbies by many but I know there's a living I can carve out of doing what I love.
I always shoot for the moon!!
Great post, I really like your new avatar too.
I am glad to see you full of vim!! I would expect nothing less from the bread winner.. gettit ;0)
ROFL
I love the meme, @meesterboom With those mouth-watering recipes it could have been nothing less than bread on your mystery post :D
I definitely try to shoot for the moon but I've got no sense of direction (literally & figuratively)...so where will I land??? hmmm....
Really glad to see you moving forward, dear! Love your avatar!
I'm terrible at setting goals... I just know what I have to do, and make lists (sometimes) to get it done...
It is really good to see that you're "rolling!" Steem on! 😄😇😄

Oh @creatr - I am excellent at making lists....and then forgetting where I put them. LOL
I've figured out the very bottom dollar I need to earn so hubby and I can pay off debt AND start saving. It's not a lot because we don't require a lot - so I'm hopeful and I need to be diligent about my passion projects. That doesn't mean I stop looking for another job because steady income is nice - but IF I can earn consistently doing what I love then I don't have to work for anyone else EVER AGAIN. That's something to shoot for!
And, sweetie, I'd be more than glad if you are able to succeed at that! Leave it to others to work for da man! ;)
I surely wish you the best of success in bringing in more than that "bottom dollar" doing a mix of joyful things that you love and excel at! Rock and Steem on, dear! :) :) :)
Inspiring stylization and a fluid read. You are someone to look up to for examples in layout.
Thank you @justinashby
I highly recommend formatted posts using headers and pictures. I've written a couple of Blogging 101 posts for best practices. I'm just going to respond to all of these wonderful comments first before I dig up the links to them. Just curious - do you blog elsewhere or is Steemit your first?
I am a recovering Facebook slave. I love it here. This place taught me more in one day than years on Facebook.
That's what I like to hear! You are officially a bona fide convert now. Here's some kool-aid. LOL Seriously though. I only check in on FB to see whose birthday I missed and...to "SPAM" my Steemit posts. LOL
I'm still mystified WHY people spend so much time there making Zuckerberg millions when they could be earning HERE.
I guess they're content taking the blue pill.

Word.
Congratulations on your success! I am just about completing my first month here, and about to evaluate how I have really "done."
As far as goals go, I guess I tend to set realistic goals, mostly because I have grown really tired of feeling disappointed, over the years. In the past, I have tried to shoot for the moon a number of times, and am yet to succeed... so I backed off a bit on the ambition.
@denmarkguy - firstly congratulations on sticking it out for a month! I've seen way too many people quit after their first couple of posts. The "trick" that's worked for me in keeping a positive attitude on Steemit is this: NEVER EXPECT earnings. Many of my most well-thought posts made pennies where some of what I consider goofy posts did very well. That could have easily guided my writing if I "followed the money" but I want to write what I want to write and to hell with the earnings. That's the mindset that keeps me going.
Don't get me wrong - I love seeing the dollar value increase as much as the next person but I refuse to set boundaries on my Steemit creativity. Best wishes to you on building your community and reaching your goals.
I gave Steemit a try because I missed the "social blogging" that was popular around 2002-2009, before Facebook skimmed off all the "social" parts. I also missed having a "general musings" blog... the post-Facebook philosophy always seemed to teach that bloggers "must" have a niche-- and I do, and several, and quite successful... but I miss having a place to fire off those "random ideas." And that seems to work well, here.
Yes, Steemit is great for random ideas in a plethora of subjects. I do wish there was a way to better organize posts by topic but maybe that will come one day.
I've noticed with FB that my people are very niche with very little in cross interest or connections. Family | Marketing | Snapchat | School friends whereas here it feels open-minded and... I think the intelligence level is much higher, generally speaking.
positive thinking is going to help , whereas negative thinking only makes things more difficult. upvoted!
I call it "Fight Gravity" and it seems I do that every day because, you know, at the end of the "game" we all die so we may as well try to fly before they put us in the ground.
[edited] Positive thinking is always harder to achieve but definitely grows in power when used regularly. :D
For non-bloggers, it's already a goal achieved by posting something worth reading.
@immarojas - for non-bloggers this is a very difficult platform to start on...but so worth it once you get the hang of it. I'm lucky that I've been blogging (on and off) since the 90s but still don't know a thing about digital currency. If you're new to blogging I highly recommend this: JUST WRITE, SHARE & CREATE I'm not saying stick to what you know, but stick to what you LOVE. Formatting and making a blog post pretty comes with practice and the willingness to learn how. :D
yeah..was reading those posts where you're teaching stuff, couldn't make my brain remember ;) cheers!!
@immarojas - if you have any questions just yell. If I can't help then I probably know someone who can. The ultimate goal is to get people comfortable with the platform and spread the word.
i'll take you on that one of these days thank you :)
I love your new avatar but not as much as your fighting spirit.
I guess I set my goals high but I don't want much out of life in a material way. I find that if I focus first on helping other people I am always super abundantly blessed.
All the best to you @merej99!
@kus-knee (The Old Dog)
Hey @kus-knee - I feel like I've been kicking off the dust & dirt that life has thrown at me my entire life! Well, I'm sick of the attempts to bury me when I'm still breathing. Time to grow wings and fly above the fray.
I don't need much in a material way either but I refuse to stay where I am because it's not where I'm supposed to be. I know this with all my heart. My passion has always been helping people because I believe we are only as strong as our most vulnerable. This is why I never ask, "Why me?" -- because the proper response to that is, "Why NOT me?"
Continue being a blessing @kus-knee. You are appreciated.
Glad to see you getting after it on your own terms. You are tenacious! Here's to great success for you -- whether it's a big goal or smaller. My goal setting is all over the map. And I don't count on anything. At least there's truth in my name "Haphazard Homestead", lol. Best of luck all your goals!

Remember you told me your word for 2017 was rejuvenation.
This is your time, spring is upon us. Brush off the dead wood, spread those roots and let your new growth push up to the light. Don't try to grow around the shadows that others have cast, make your own path and show the world what you can become.
I remember this and think of it often
Maybe I needed to be fired to put a fire in my belly and tell myself "it will not happen again." If I had stayed there long-term I think my energy and creativity would have weeped itself into non-existence.
Time to EXTEND, RENEW & GROW. Thank you
