A HO-HUM moment turned exciting!
Just as I was about to shut down the computer for the evening, I checked emails to see if there was anything that required an immediate response. With a jaded, somewhat perturbed eye, I spotted an email from HubPages.
Hmmph! I thought.
I'd just "celebrated" three years on HP and have been inactive the last two. Are they deactivating my account? I wondered.
I've really nothing bad to say about HubPages. They've got a very nice UI and I love the options I have with my profile page. I can highlight my favorite articles, you can see my reputation score and the badges I've earned. They've also got a pretty active community as long as one puts the time in to develop it. Hmm... Why does this sound familiar?
All of my posts on HubPages are what I consider EVERGREENS. They have and will continue to stand the test of time. They are as relevant today as when I wrote them three years ago but the striked difference between them and us as far as residuals is my HP articles will keep earning long after I'm dead (if the site is around that long).
Looking through my stats, I was pretty shocked to see that my account still gets traffic, albeit very light traffic, but it's still earning pennies a day much like a BTC faucet will do.

Sadly, I've only managed to earn a whopping total of $21.97 in three years BUT remember what I said earlier. I haven't done anything on that site in over two years.
"We've selected your article for a HubPages Network Site"
Well, that made me pause with curiosity. Maybe this email is click-worthy.

And with one email that I almost blindly deleted, I found myself signing in to yet another site, updating my biography and reading through the "highest quality article" they found in my meager selection of posts.
Oh, good gravy! There's room for TONS of improvement in all of my articles!
Now I've got an incredible amount of editing to do and one more link to add to my website because...
WHY NOT?
- Maybe this is another avenue to spread my creative wings.
- Maybe it's an opportunity to be a Steemit evangelist on a well-established site.
- Maybe I need to see this as opportunity knocking instead of giving it the cold shoulder.
- Maybe if I dust off my account and show a little life there I can turn it into another potential earning avenue.
I know it's not Arianna Huffington emailing me about re-publishing an article but...
I still think this is exciting!

I noticed something as I was heading to bed, like you turning off the computer here...
Notice anything????
HUZZAH! I smell comment competition.
Mr. @barrydutton is stealth on his skates ready to overtake 15th place. But the 14th slot is in their grasp... LOL
I was known for my time smashing people in the corners and thru the glass sending them out in ambulances some times, but I would prefer we complement each other, not compete lol.
#SmartGirls
are awesome!
My BTC updates are out for both sides of the border the last hour or so if you want to have a look and a live feed is included for the SEC / gov't decision out of New York..
I have a favour..... I have a post that pays out in a few hours, I honestly think is undervalued a whole ton. I donated most of my holdings here to people again recently, and wondered if I could borrow 2 or 3 SBD to promote that post. I hate to ask but I will pay you back LOL. IDK who else is online but you, seeing your replies today......
Sure thing! Let me check my SBD because I think I was trying to exchange it for STEEM.
The SBD exchange went through already so the bulk is in STEEM right now. I'll transfer the little bit I've got. Hopefully you can accumulate it and use it to promote a future post?
Sorry for the late reply..... the SEC decision broke and I had my post done in advance, and ready to go and only needed to insert a couple words, thought of you, during that time, i felt like a writing pro for the first time in my life LOL.
All my BTC posts are done for the day, chock full of info, may just add to them as the day goes, with a couple more bits of info as I have done. I got the good info out solidly within mins of the news, here, and all over SM.
I used your money here immediately when it came in MOL..... and then made a note to pay you back in my online calendar by mid week hopefull when it trickles in!!!!!
TY very much for helping me today!!!!!! I really appreciate it a lot.
It is you and me side by side on a page for the first time ever LOL-- on SteemWhales - never thought I would see such a day!
This is very exciteing and great news @merej99 ! When oppertunity knocks , answer the damn door !! Lol ! Best of luck to you !!
I need to go there and edit at least one article. I'm having a hard time moving today! I just want to crawl into bed. I don't think I'm sick but everything is taking twice as long to do today!
Ooh well i hope your feeling better soon , maybe after some rest ! Im still looking forward to seeing what kind of new logo you come up with for me ! Lol! Absolutely no rush , and only if you still feel like it when you get the time or need a break from the usual steemit grind ! Lol! Thanks for the reply back , get well soon ! 😉👍
It is good news to know that they are still considering it, and above all generating money.
I've heard very good references from that page and another one that hears good comments is Yahoo! Contributor Network.
Very good news dear friend @ merej99, congratulations
I'm hoping to tweak a few more articles to be considered for their other channels, but this article selection was completely out of the blue and suddenly I feel like my eyes were open to new possibilities. But I have to be careful because I have a tendency to do too much (because I want to do it all) and then I get sick because I'm so exhausted.
Indeed it is - very exciting!
I enjoyed reading this post. Someone might say it's nothing special, she just wrote about checking her mail and finding one somewhat different and interesting. Yes - but the way you bring it make a difference same as the message you are handing out, making your post as an inspiring and cautionary tale, both at the same time.
However, I think you should take that road too and embrace the offer HubPages just put it on your table, at least as long as you would enjoy that ride (with or without combining it with Steemit - what could easily turn out just as an additionally added value for all parties).
As well, I want to agree with you, here on Steemit we heavily miss that opportunity and possibility to earn from our articles in a long run, and not only in first 24 hours (in most cases) or just bit longer (in some rare cases).
From my own experience, (probably I'm that kind of author) most of my articles on other sites and platforms get noticed and provoked readers interaction after some while, almost never immediately after they were launched - not at first glance, and as such (author) I have very small chances for some more serious success, here on Steemit.
I am hoping that one day Steemit will have a beautifully laid out Profile page for all contributors and that we can have the option to select up to 10 articles and "turn on" the earnings for just those.
I don't think I've had any traffic to posts older than 3 days (and I'm being generous with that time frame) unless I highlight and link them in a current post. Sadly, too many don't bother if they know they're not getting revenue from it and even worse is the practice of self-plagiarism, which is a no-no.
Unfortunately, in most things creative, the author/creator/artist isn't appreciated or valued until they're dead. I'm glad some of my work is being recognized - even if it's a few years later! I'm happy for any blessings and positive things from the universe. :D
Congratulations! Having an article on one of the "network sites" will definitely help... not much, but it all counts! Let's face it, HubPages is the only contributor site (of 100's!) that's still going and paying people. The new interface and mini sites has been a good thing.
I've been there for close to ten years and I still get periodic payments even though I haven't done much there... updated a few things here and there, but that's all... last I checked, my most read piece had passed 60,000 views and keeps ticking away... 10-15 more, every day. So yeah, polish them up a bit and keep going... unlike Steemit, they keep earning, even at a "faucet trickle" like you say.
Way to go @denmarkguy - 10 years is longer than a lot of relationships. LOL
I am definitely going to update some of those articles and clean up my writing queue. Some of my recipes did rather well there so it's worth dusting the ol' girl off and seeing if she runs. This definitely affirms the call to action. :D
I think I could re-write a 'done' piece 400 times, open it again, and still do some more changes ( :
Thanks for the post, that is great news, must feel good, congratulations. Edit, edit edit, and go forward to more success. I feel one must pursue any and all avenues of the creative.
That used to be my biggest issue: Edit to DEATH. Then I finally got to a point where I did one or two read throughs and let it go because it will never be perfect and there is always room for improvement. LOL I'm at a point where I will be pursuing a lot of creative avenues and hopefully generating enough funds so I don't have to work for anyone but myself. It's a dream... and thankfully I'm low maintenance so I don't have to make a lot to be comfortable. :)
This is really cool to hear. I wonder if that will ever happen on this site. Years later you still get a little bit of change rolling in.
I'm really hoping @theregularguy
That would be amazing if we got to that point but we're nowhere near there yet, especially with the way we're set up now. Fingers crossed.
yeah, I know that feeling...I've got one site that keeps after me but I don't like the formatting and editing functions or the way my stuff looks on the page, especially my poetry - I get picky about that
I don't blame you for that, John.
I think the only way I would ever be truly satisfied with formatting, especially for a poem, is if I created it in Photoshop or Illustrator and posted it.
hmm...good idea! Thanks, Girl :)
A perfect blend of word and art. Hey, I need inspiration for a drawing. I'd love to collaborate on something with you.
I always need an illustrator - stock photos just don't do it - but then, I'd need to put you on my non-existent payroll LOL!! Sounds like fun though - I'll see what I'm going to post next and Dm it to you on Twitter to give you a heads up. How's that?
Sounds good! :D
