4 Simple Tips to Help You Reach Your Goals

Without goals, you don't have direction in your life. Without goals, you don't know what kind of progress or results you're making in your life. Without goals, you end up not appreciating the mistakes you've made and stop improving yourself.

Part of life is discovering who you are and what you're capable of, but setting goals is the answer. It's the starting line that represents where you want to go in life.

To give you some extra motivation to carry out your goals, here are some effective tips:

• Have an accountability partner. Many people need someone to count on when they're working on their goals. An accountability partner is the person you share your goals and tasks with. Your partner's role is to ensure you complete these tasks.

You can hire a virtual assistant to be your accountability partner. Consultants also make great accountability partners. If you have a mentor you trust, you can ask him or her to be your accountability partner. Your best friend or spouse can also be one.

A popular way to achieve goals with an accountability partner is to offer a risk. For example, if you don't complete a certain goal, you give your partner $10. If you don't want to lose your money and feel bad about it, you're more motivated to work toward your goals.

• Use negative motivation. You may have heard that using positive motivation or rewards can drive you to reach your goals. But did you know you can use negative motivation or rewards to do the same thing? Negative motivation is related to consequences. If you don't achieve a goal, you may suffer from consequences you don't want. For example, if you don't go through your business idea, you'll lose a lot of money.

The point of negative motivation is to encourage you to take action. If you don't take action, only the guilt, regret, and consequences remain. If you know the negative results that await you if no action is taken, the only choice you have is to perform tasks and work towards your goal.

Avoid using negative reinforcement to scare yourself out of doing your goal. This method is to push you back against the wall and force you to make a decision. Sometimes, positive reinforcement doesn't work because you may not be as motivated to accomplish a goal if you'll get only positive rewards. In some cases, people need to motivate themselves with negativity in order to stay on track and, ultimately, attain positive results.

• Focus on yourself. One of the main great traits of successful people is to stop comparing yourself to others. You're a unique individual with a unique lifestyle and unique goals. You're not anyone else but yourself. You don't have to mimic other people's lives and decisions to reach your goals.

You can be inspired by them; but there's no need for you to compare yourself to others. Create your own imaginary bubble to block out other people and prevent yourself from comparing. You'll create your own path to success.

• Step out of your comfort zones. Just like Neale Donald Walsch said, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zones.” No matter what your comfort zones are, you won't accomplish anything or move forward if you don't step out of them. Sometimes, you'll feel uncomfortable working toward goals because of various reasons, such as not being used to achievements or success. But you have to push through that discomfort to reach the pot of gold at the end of your rainbow.

Your comfort zones have only one purpose: to keep you from moving forward. Take baby steps out of your comfort zones until you've completely left them. After that, avoid getting stuck in comfort zones and continue to go toward your goals.
