Steemit account value, why hasn’t it gone up?

in #steemit8 years ago

I am newer to this site and am really enjoying it so far.  I recently added some funds to the account in the form of Steem Power.  This was a day or 2 ago, before the surge of the price of Steem today.   I was very surprised it went up so much.

My question is, why hasn’t the value of my account changed, now that Steem is worth almost $2 more per share since I bought in? I expected it to be worth a few hundred more, but it hasn’t changed at all really.

Do you have to have your money in actual Steem, and not Steem Power, to realize the gains that Steem got today?

Shouldn‘t account values go up, even if you only own Steem Power...since you can power down and cash in your SP for Steem?

Am I missing something, or does it take a day or so for the website to recalculate account values?

Any advice or explanation would be appreciated, thanks Steemians!

One other question I have, when you buy Steem Power, does any of it go away when you upvote other peoples posts? Or does it stay in your account forever and continue to gain interest?
