RUNES
Early norse writer used letters called runes, made up of vertical and diagonal strokes, to carve inscriptions in stone.Odin is said to be created the runic alphabit.

Impaled on his own spear, he hang from yggdrasil, the world tree, for nine day after the runes appeared before him.Runes were believe to have a magical powers.

Some of this rune stone combined runic inscriptions with mythological images.This one shows odin with the Goth King, ermaneric, among whose family the god made trouble, leading to the death of Ermaneric son.
