That could be a topic for a post, how do folks keep
track of all the photos over the years!! haha
I use Google photos for everything from the past 15 years...except for the boxes full of old film photos that I have. I have a suitcase full of my grandmother's photos, too, that I keep intending to digitize, but I never seem to get started on that project!
Photo management is BIG problem for me, too. Maybe you can start using Google Photos for the photos on your computer and add the older ones to it as time allows? I like having them online because
I can access them from anywhere in the world, no matter what device I am on.
