Question; how voting and curation work?
Voting and curation on steemit have one thing in common which is steem power SP a user SP can simultaneously determine the effect of either his vote or curation on a particular post.

In simple term voting on steemit hive community are similar to likes or comments a user get when they post on social media like facebook, Instagram, and more the only difference is on steemit hive is, as a user get more upvote his reputation and SP on steemit increase which means there are reward for having upvotes. An interesting fact about voting on steem blockchain is every time a steemitian upvote an article on steem certain amount of energy is reduced which will be replaced by 20% every day so keep in mind that steemit blockchain increase all your upvoting power you spent by 20% every day.

Curation on steemit hive works like upvote, only difference is users who follow you on steemit because they are interested in what you published on steemit will automatically upvote every content you publish on steemit hive.

Question; what happened if you vote a post before 5 minutes?
It a simple analogy how posting activity on steemit work thanks to expert who broke down the complexity and make steemit more convincing to operate with.
When a post is been published by a user on steemit.
If an article on steemit is upvoted the moment it is posted 100% of the reward will remain in the reward pool.
The reward is then adjusted in every minute.
In every 1 minute, the curator receives 20%, and 80% remains in the rewards pool.
In 2 minutes, the curator receives 40%, and 60% remains in the rewards pool.
In 3 minutes, the curator receives 60%, and 40% remains in the rewards pool.
Im 4 minutes, the curator receives 80%, and 20% remains in the rewards pool.
If a post is upvoted 5 minutes (or later) after posting, 100% of the curation reward goes to the curator.

steem witness are selected by community to create block for the blockchain I would vote @shortsegments he created banking and finance community and he's very active on steem hive with interesting article.

Question; which community will you join on steemit and why?

there are lots of interesting communities on steemit but I've actually choose to concentrate on these few communities because I love articles related to crypto currency and finance.
