👉Mazzle Needs Answers - QUESTION - Do you set long term goals? 👈
Longer term goal setting? It's a thing right?
I meet a lot of people through my business. I've had days where I've spent upwards of 6 hours a day chatting with numerous people who I have only just met.
Today was one of those days. Interestingly, I talked goal setting with two of these people. One person was a new client who signed up at the gym, the second person was a Personal Trainer who was interviewing for a position with me.
These two people had something in common:
Neither of them had set any long term goals... ever...
This strikes me as very odd. Ever since I hit my early 20s, I've had multiple goals that I was working towards.
- I set a goal to start and complete a degree at university
- I set goals to hit various savings targets
- I set goals for what my annual income should be at various stages of my career
- goals for travelling overseas
- goals for home ownership
- goals for business ownership and the eventual sale of said business
- I've even set goals for where my Steem Power should be over the next 12 months
The point is, I set goals for almost every aspect of my life. And to be honest, I thought I was normal. But based on the number of people I speak with on this topic, apparently I'm not...
The reason for setting goals is obvious
We set them to have something to aim for and make it clear as to where we want to be in the future. We don't need to go into the detail about why this is a good thing other than to say that I set goals to keep focused and maintain a high level of motivation.
The real purpose of this post isn't to encourage you to set goals, it's to find out if I'm alone in this obsessive goal setting
So! Do you set goals? Do you have short term, medium term, and long term goals. I'd love to hear what you do and how you stay motivated.
For me, goal setting is how I stay motivated and focused on where I want to be in my life. What do you do? Am I alone in goal setting or do you do something similar?
Let me know what you do in the comments. I'd love to hear your strategies for staying motivated. I'd also love to know if I am alone in goal setting.
Let's have a discussion about this! I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

To be honest brother, right now I just want to crank out as much value as I possibly can to the world meaning bringing joy and laughter to the world, which is why I'm so grateful for the existence of dtube. You just asked us if we set long term goals. Yes, my long term goals are me being known for acting well, making great videos and for my music. I don't really have short term goals though, I realized. I just know that I want to create something every single day (meaning videos and acting). I guess I might have to set short term goals...
Winny out...for now ;)
It sounds like you have a target - daily videos for DTube.
But yeah. Knowing what you want to achieve over the next few months and next couple of years can give you some more direction.
You’re already making fantastic progress so your motivation is excellent. So maybe goal setting isn’t all that vital for you?
I somehow never really thought of short term goals...maybe I used to, but since dtube exists I'm just focusing on providing value as much as possible. I just know that I don't want to waste any minute of my life anymore. There were times where I think I have wasted them, but I don't regret it because I've grown from that.
To be honest, short term goals is just comething that keeps you accountable, but I'd like to see things in a bigger picture and do as much as I can to get there. It also depends in which field you are setting your goals for, so I think sometimes it's really wise to set short term goals and maybe I will be doing those again, but for now I just know that I want to provide as much value as possible.
Winny out...for now ;)
hey @mazzle! thanks for a great read. I'm practicing goal setting too and maintaining consistency. Personally, I found it hard to achieve my goals if I set them too ambitiously or if they were unrealistic. So instead, I broke down my long term goals into smaller, more manageable tasks. This effectively encouraged mini achievements which would then spark greater motivation.
I aim to:
That's the perfect approach and pretty much exactly how I manage them as well. :)
Thanks for commenting and good luck!
I was going to say I don’t set goals but I actually do without really thinking about it. But they are usually short terms goals like for the next few months or so.
That seems to be the common trend. The guy I was interviewing today seemed surprised when I asked what he wanted to achieve over the next couple of years.
My goal is to finish my ANZAC post in time for this ANZAC Day, not the next one!
I hope that's realistic :D
Have a 3 month goal of building an apartment. It really helps me stay motivated to see the goal and work twords it!
Nice one mate! That's a big project!
I have loose long term goals. A vague idea of where I want to be at some future point. Maybe you could call them dreams rather than goals, but I've found over the years that setting them in stone can add to pressure and disappointment.
I write down a few goals for New Year every year but they are also a bit loose. I'm often doing well if I give myself a 6/10 at year end. Maybe I'm just an underachiever ;)
When I'm under the pump and things get chaotic I write a TODO list for the day or the week and then drive myself to maintain focus.
I don't know if all this is good or healthy, but it kinda works for me :)
If it's working for you then keep at it. The main thing is if you feel satisfied with where you are at and the progress you are making. :)
I hope thre wasn't anything important in the video that I missed, as I'm currently trying to catch the steem feed and I read a hell of a lot faster than I absorb from videos XD
I don't set long term goals, because they're doomed to either complete failure (they never get done) or just eventual failure (I keep trying because I'm stubborn, and in one case just enjoy the process, and I'm now down to the one I'm enjoying the process of, as everything else has eventually failed XD) regardless of the amount of effort and planning involved.
I probably do have short and medium term goals but they're probably subconsciously set and then forgotten when achieved XD
I think what I'm discovering is that goal setting just doesn't work for everyone. So it might just be a situation of people learning what works for them and sticking to that. :)
The post and video pretty much say the same thing. I like to write as well as make videos these days given that people prefer to absorb information in different ways.
Hey Ian! Yes, I am the same way: goals drive my action in this life.
I keep very specific goals for both short-term (annual goals), Medium Term (those aimed at the next few years) as well as Life Goals (really, getting myself closer to how I want my future life to look like.) I review my goals almost daily.
I have health goals which are weight and diet specific.
I have financial goals, but they are not savings totals specific.
And I have Life Goals. A vision as to what my every day life is going to be like in the future.
Without goals, I would be rudderless and sad. And yes, I run across so many people who are NOT goal driven. I don't think it's bad: to each his own. I just could not operate without the strong compass that I find goals to represent in my life.
Hey! It’s great to hear from you. We’re very similar then. I find it extremely surprising when someone hasn’t got something to work towards.
But people do find what works best for them. :)
