National Museum "Kiev Picture Gallery"

The museum opened on 12 November 1922 under the tutelage of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. The main museum fund consists of a collection of Fedor Tereshchenko and Oscar Hansen. Later, the meeting was supplemented by an exhibition of the All History Museum of Ukraine named I. T. Shevchenko.
The museum is located at: Tereschenkovskaya Street, 9 (architect V. Nikolaev, 1878).
In 1880, Fyodor Tereshchenko bought a plot of M. Chaplinsky and rebuilt it into a residence with a picture gallery and a winter garden (architect A. Gun, V. Nikolaev, 1882). Tereshchenko collects paintings of Russian artists for about a quarter of a century.
After his death in 1894, the collection was replenished by nephew Olga Tereshchenko. In 1917, the Tereshchenko family went to England. Collection of paintings nationalized.
During the Great Patriotic War during the Nazi occupation of Kiev from September 1941 to November 6, 1943, according to AP-Gudakovoy Kulzhenko, who worked as director of museums, 78 exhibition squares of Russian, Eastern and Western art museums were removed and destroyed in Konigsberg.
Today, the museum's funding amounts to more than 12 thousand pieces of fine and decorative artwork. Open more than 30 rooms.

March 2, 2017 it was decided to return to the historical name of the museum - National Museum "Kyiv art gallery".
At the same time, the commission refused to mention it in honor of the museum's founder Feodor Tereshchenko, explaining this by the reluctance of collective work. Although the museum of Western and Eastern art, located nearby, is named after the owners of the collection Bogdan and Varvara Khanenko.
