Today I will be revealing things most business owner do on their website so as to make their page load very fast, thereby giving the desired speed in term of the speed in opening different pages all their audience will always be satisfy with. As you know that your website loading speed is one of the factors that determine the success of any website. This tutorial will be for those using joomla open souce platform to run their business website.

At the end of this tutorial you will have learn the following;

A. How to enable cache on joomla.

B. How to enable joomla compression.

Before I start I will advise those that will be using this tutorial to update their joomla to the latest version, since each version of joomla always come with improved features.

A.How to enable cache on joomla: here is what cache can do for those that will like to about cache before installing it on their website. Cache make it easier to access all the previously search content of other visitor which are stored in a page, instead of the initial process of fetching the content from the database, as it will involve process of loading all your plugins, components and modules, template before converting them into a page for the user. As this process happen to be much more slower, but once the internal cache have been installed, all the first processed will have been stored where they can now be easily accessed by other users. Thereby improving the speed of your website. Now that you know what cache is all about, it is time to go to the next phase which is the installation process.

Step 1

From your joomla administration panel locate the system tab, under it you will find Global configuration click on it as shown in the image below.

On the next page you will be redirected to locate the System settings tab opposite the configuration tab.

Click on the system settings tab in other to have access to the caching settings which is on the right side of the page.
Ignore every other detail under cache settings except System cache click on the drop down arrow and select ON-Conservative caching as the other option which is ON-Progressive caching will store caching per each visitor of your website, but you will want to store cache that will be access by all user in other to increase the speed of your website choose ON-conservative caching, then click on the save button as shown in the image below.

Having done the above, I will say you have done 70% of the job needed to make joomla cache work properly on your joomla website, the next thing you need is to install the system page cache.To do this locate Extension tab on your joomla administration dashboard, under it you will find plugins click on it as shown in the image below.

This is where you will find of all the plugins currently installed on your joomla administration dashboard. Make a quick search for ** cache using the search box** and hit enter key then it will direct you to a new page where you will need to enable system-Page Cache as shown in the image below.

Just hit on the red crossed button to enabled sytem Page cache as the red crossed indicate that it is currently disabled.
At this point I will say you have finally installed caching system on your joomla website it is now functioning.

B. How to enable joomla compression:
enabling compression on joomla also help to improve the website loading speed, as the webpage size will reduced when they are been compressed. Once you enable internal joomla compression package each page visited by your visitor will be compressed before the page will later be made visible to them, since each page will be compressed then the speed at which each page load will be faster than when they are not compressed. Since you now know the importance of compressing a page, it is time to teach you a step by step guide in enabling joomla compression.

From your joomla administration dashboard locate System under it you will find Global configuration click on it. On the next page you will be redirected, locate the server tab and click on it which is by the right hand side of the page. As shown in the image below.

On the page shown above is where you will find server related options in which you can change to your own specification. Now locate Gzip page compression label and click Yes to enable it, in which the indicator will turn green, showing that Gzip page compression is enabled. After enabling Gzip page compression hit the save button as shown in the image below now you are done with compressing your joomla website.

Other things that also help boost how fast a page load is by reducing the size of your image before uploading them, also if you don't have much content but the topic require more images. It is advisable to put each image into different page and then making it accessible with a next button, just the way other professional joomla business website.
