Time limit projects, for those busy or uninspired days!
Sometimes if I have a busy day where I don’t have time to cover big areas with paint, or if I feel like painting but don’t feel like starting a big project, I’ll give myself a ’’time limit project’’.
A time limit project is when I give myself a few hours, ranging from 2 hours to as long as I can picture myself going strong, to complete a painting. No matter the outcome I will leave the project, either as finished or until the next day. Usually I’ll paint these paintings on smaller pieces of panel or canvas just so I’m sure I’ll have time to get a couple of layers inn before the time is up.
It is a great way to loosen up and make direct decisions with the paint and design. With time limited projects I keep my mind from wandering off and I usually keep my design fresher and stronger.
Today was one of those days as I needed a break from a bigger painting I am working on and I had quite a few other things on my timetable.
I decided to make a landscape of my favorite beach with the time limit of 2 hours. Here's the result;
I took a couple of process shots along the way to show how I usually build the layers in my paintings.
Here is a link to a post I wrote where I go more in depth in my painting process.

Your painting looks great!!
I love that time limit process... I use a similar technique some times.
Thank you @maxjoy! :D
It is a great technique, and can for sure be applied to most areas! :)
