On Friday 2nd June, the media reports once again was clouded by reports of 35 five lost lives and over 70 casualties from what was considered an unsuccessful midnight robbery in Manila the capital of Philippines.

Apart from the speculation of the massive loss in gambling and the need to obtain his lost cash, there was no conclusive reason so far reached as to the motive of the solo gunman’s actions at the Casino.

From the eyewitnesses reports, the gunman described as “tall, pale and English-speaking man” stormed into the Resorts World building and begun shooting aimlessly with the intention of scaring off the people. He stuffed a bag with gambling chip and then set tables on fire using petrol before disappearing and setting himself ablaze in on a bed.

Even though there is general agreement that the gunman was interested in nothing other than money, there thought of him being a terrorist can not be weighed out. The definition of terrorist from my point of view is a person who takes advantage of other people fear and unawareness to exploit them physically, emotionally and even spiritually.

The fact that the police does not consider this man a terrorist does not agree with the facts from his actions. As much as he did not mean to harm the people, his actions have ended up killing 35 people and even causing massive injuries to over 70 the occupants at the casino making him an unaffiliated terrorist.

The bottom line from the event thus suggests that the in as much as there were no gun wounds among the victims, 30 precious innocent lives have been lost and over 70 non-deserving individuals have sustained unnecessary injuries. Moreover the hotel and casino owners have to suffer the cost of renovation and a series of legal procedures to get back on business.
