From whales to seals and down the cliff - Kaikoura in New Zealand - BEAUTIFUL PLANET - Pictures from a great journey Vol. 5 ENG/GER

Today I would like to take you again to one of those wonderful places I happened to come across on of of my travels.

Let us go to New Zealand, I really fell for this lovely country.

From Christchurch, the biggest city on the Southern island we are moving north just along the Eastern coast and after about 2 1/2 hours we are arriving in Kaikoura a little seaside town.

This place is perfect to discover all kind of sea life and you will find all kind of tour companies, like the usual suspects Whale Watching or Dolphin Encounter, all trying to get a piece of the business cake.

During peak season this town can get pretty busy but since I was traveling with a little van, which I had just bought off from some other backpacker I wasn’t so keen to stay within city limits.

Nothing feels better than falling asleep to the sound of the sea and waking up and hearing only the sound of nature.

The area around Kaikoura offers some spectacular scenery, it is located right between the coastal mountain range and the ocean.

Especially if you take the walk around the same-named peninsula, you can enjoy great views of the Kaikoura Range, the ocean and the coastline to the north and south.

For me it was the perfect place to start traveling on my own, my own road trip up and down through this amazing country.

Und wieder einmal möchte ich euch an einen dieser wunderbaren Orte entführen, die ich auf meinen Reisen entdecken durfte.

Dieses Mal geht es wieder nach Neuseeland, dieses Land hat es mir wirklich angetan.

Besuchen wir doch einmal die Südinsel und begeben uns von Christchurch aus Richtung Norden immer entlang der Ostküste. Nach ca. 2 1/2 Stunden befinden wir uns in dem kleinen Küstenstädtchen Kaikoura.

Dieser Ort ist perfekt um zu entdecken, was im und auf dem Meer so los ist. Es gibt die üblichen Touren, wie Whale Watching oder Dolphin Encounter und es kann in der Hauptsaison auch schon mal ganz schön wuselig werden.

Aber jedem das Seine, als ich diesen Ort besucht hatte war ich mit einem gebraucht gekauften kleinen Van unterwegs, in dem ich auch übernachten konnte. Deshalb war ich nicht auf Hotels oder ähnliches angewiesen und konnte mein “Zelt” aufschlagen wo ich wollte.

Das musste natürlich am Meer sein, wen es schon mal dort ist, es gibt nicht schöneres als zum Meeresrauschen einzuschlafen und damit auch wieder aufzuwachen.

Die Gegend um Kaikoura bietet auch eine spektakuläre Szenerie, da es genau zwischen der Meeresküste und einem kleinen Gebirgszug liegt.

Gerade wenn man um die gleichnamige Halbinsel wandert, kann man eine großartige Aussicht auf die Berge, die den Ozean und die Küste entlang geniessen.

Für mich was das hier der perfekte Ort, um meinen eigenen Roadtrip kreuz und quer durch dieses tolle Land zu starten.

Having had this morning view and sleeping there in my own "house of wheels" was really something I will always remember.

Dieser Ausblick am Morgen und das Schlafen im eigenen Haus auf Rädern war auch ein Erlebnis, von dem ich immer noch schwärme.

The mix of wild sea side and coastal mountain range makes up for some special panorama, just priceless.

Die Mischung aus wilder Küste und dem nahen Gebirgszug bietet einem ein ganz besonderes Panorama, einfach unbezahlbar.

The clip-top walk leads you around the Kaikoura peninsula, it starts quite mellow at the beginning.

Die Klippen-Wanderung um die Kaikobra-Halbinsel startet zum Anfang noch ganz gemütlich.

But the way back brings you down to the shore and you have to find your way over rough and smooth.

Der Rückweg bringt dich dann runter ans Wasser und man darf dann über Stock und Stein seinen eigenen Pfad finden.

During this walk you will also come close to the local fauna, most notably you will see lots of seals who aren’t shy at all. It’s more like they won't be bothered of our presence at all, nothing could really stop them from having their well-deserved midday nap.

Hierbei kommt man dann auch der heimischen Tierwelt etwas näher, besonders den hier überhaupt nicht scheuen Seehunden, die mich eher gelangweilt betrachteten und sich in ihrer Mittagsruhe gar nicht hatten stören lassen.

Wandering around that rugged coastline feels a little bit like an adventure but it surely is an experience where you will come astonishingly close to mother nature.

New Zealand is a quite special place, for me so far the most beautiful country I have visited. But for Europeans it is really the other end of this world, not many places are farther away.

Die felsige Küste lang zu wandern ist schon etwas wie ein kleines Abenteuer aber auch eine Erfahrung bei der man Mutter Natur erstaunlich nah kommen kann.

Neuseeland ist schon ein ganz besonderes Land, bisher für mich das schönste Land dieser Erde, welches ich besuchen durfte. Aber von Deutschland aus gesehen, ist es wirklich am anderen Ende der Welt, es gibt nicht viele andere Orte die weiter entfernt sind.
