Eridaniya's region – the former huge reservoir on Mars
The research of the device MRO which works at an orbit of Mars has shown interesting features of the region of Eridaniya. The probe has found deposits which correspond to traces of hydrothermal activity. On this photo an exit of these deposits which are partially covered and surrounded with traces of later volcanic activity is noticeable. The analysis of data, massivenesses and cards of deposits has shown that on Mars in this region there took place the same processes, as on Earth in the same time – the site has been covered with the sea at the bottom of which there were volcanoes and other signs of geological activity that warmed water.
The team of a mission has made the approximate card of how the sea in this region of Mars what depth it was looked. Age of these deposits – about 3,7 billion years. By means of a spectrometer of MRO it was succeeded to establish mineral structure of deposits. The ancient sea in this region might contain up to 210 000 cubic kilometers of water. There are in the region traces of lava streams which were formed after disappearance of the sea.
