Simple ICT knowledge that could generate income for you || My Actifit Report Card: September 17 2020
Computer 🖥 💻 Networking
Welcome to my blog dear friend, in some of my previous blog posts, I talked about, I also talked about farming. These are things that can make someone self-dependent.
Today, I’ll like us to talk about ICT_Networking. This topic is not something that may end today, reason is that I’m a type that takes things bit by bit. But I assure you that you’ll learn a lot after this comprehensive tutorial.
What is computer networking:
In a simple way, computer networking is an act of linking computers so that users can exchange information or share access to a central store of information.
Two computers for our tutorial
The above laptops will serve as our practical tools throughout this tutorial series. Both laptops are mine; one is Dell Laptop while the other is HP Laptop.
Who can do computer networking?
The answer is you. Anyone can network computers, you must not study Computer Science and Engineering to become an ICT person. Little informal education as this can put you through.
If I become ICT inclined, who will need my services and how much can I earn?
Our father’s used to say that they’re the Jet age, but now, we are saying that we’re the computer age, meaning that everyone in this age will somehow need your services if you become ICT person.
For earnings, it can creat wealth for you depending on how deep you dive in it. You’ll become employable for those of you that like becoming a staff in an organization. I myself has chosen to become a consultant because I valued my time, and I love freedom.
What are tools 🧰 that I might need for networking jobs?
Well, you need your heard and your hands, you may not need any other thing. But for clarity sake, you might also need some of the tools that I’m about to show you because your clients may not provide them for you.
LAN and WAN
Before I continue on the tools, let’s understand the type of networking that we have, because that will determine the required tools.
LAN stand for Local Area Network, in computer science environment, it means a collection of interconnected computers that can share applications, resources such as internet, printers and data. LAN can only cover a few kilometers and mainly used in offices, homes, schools and churches as the case may be.
WAN stands for Wide Area Network. This is a computer network that can cover a wide geographical area, most times over telephone lines, satellites 📡 etc. unlike LAN. Banks 🏦 are the type of organization that operates on WAN and LAN as well.
LAN
In this series, we’ll dwell on LAN as it remains the closest, which we can lay hold on.
Required tools for LAN networking
I’m going to group the tools into two, one are the tools that you as a technician will have with you; that’s working tools. The second group are the accessories needed to establish a LAN network, in most cases they’re provided by your clients.
Working tools
RJ 45 clipping tool
This is called RJ 45 clipping tool. I have them two with me here. They are used to clip cables inside cat5 and cat6 network plugs . As we go further, I’ll show you how it works.
Cutter
The above tool is called a cutter, it’s a sharp German tool for cutting network cables.
Clipping/pealing tool
This is pealing and clipping tools, it’s used to peal network cables and also used to push in network cables inside RJ42 female jack.
Screwdrivers
Screwdrivers are important in networking, in my case, I went for a set that contains many types. It’s used to tighten the faceplates etc.
Electric network tester
The above is very important. It’s used to test the clipped cables. It uses batteries for its functions and indicating lights.
It dictates bad connections, and prove good connections as well. It has eight light indicators that represents each network cable string; white-orange, orange, white-blue, blue, white-green, green, white-brown and brown.
With these working tools mentioned above, one can establish LAN network.
This is where we will call this part to a closure. In the coming series, we will start from the accessory part of the tools needed for LAN networking, and from there we can progress to networking itself.
I hope you enjoyed the tutorial. Please subscribe to my channel and follow through the continuation of the LAN networking tutorial.

Excellent information @maxdevalue! I've set up some networks for both my workplace, my neighbor's home, church (for the sound system) and of course, my own. I learned by just having to do it on the fly. I've not gone any further with it, but I help anyone who asks me to help them. It is kind of fun and sometimes challenging. I know you know what I mean, lol!
