Mini Motivation #35 - When do you bail on your decisions?

in #psychology8 years ago

Life is full of decisions, good ones and bad ones. Heck, even not making a decision is a decision. And each decision is followed by it's own set of consequences.

Let’s talk about the bad ones, though, because a dilemma is knowing when to "quit" on the decision and make a U-turn.

You see, at one point, you have been told stories of persistence, grit, overcoming-all-odds, survival of the fittest. Those are the stories that make into legend. We read about them, we get inspired. We used them as torches when the light goes out in our lives.

But what if, even after a long while of sticking to a bad decision, a long while of having your character being tested, and still, there is no progress for the better? Is there a time limit to those kind of things? Will you ever be able to live up to your heroes? Are you being stupid not to see the boat is sinking?

I hate to tell you this, but there is no definitive answer, because all situations are different. I can, however, provide a list of questions that may help give some clarity.

  1. Do I have the resources to continue down this path? How long more before it really depletes?
  2. Are there at least three areas I could do better within the next 7 days?
  3. Am I confusing determination with being stubborn or egoistic?
  4. Who else is effected by this decision, and have you had an honest conversation with them about it?
  5. Do you already have a plan B? How long will it take for you to execute it the moment you bail on plan A?
  6. Is there someone you can talk to about this? Someone who has been through the same situation?
  7. What are you trying to prove here?
  8. If you place you palm on your stomach, what does your gut feel say?

There is no shame in quitting on a bad decision. Shame is when you don’t attempt at all.

Mini Motivation is my own daily strategy to inspire myself. Mostly 3 minute reads.

From Motivation, we gain Inspiration. From Inspiration, we achieve Momentum. And the rest, they say, is history.

Hope it helps nudge you a bit too in the right direction.

Oh it did? Let me know in the comments, and of course an upvote would be a nice motivation for me. :)

Stay awesome!

Wait, why's Mav posting on Steemit nowadays?

Well, unlike other blogging and social media platform, Steemit is the only platform that allows me to earn cryptocurrency when I engage with it. Yup, one Steem is about USD7, and you, too, can earn Steem Dollars every time you:

  • Create content (articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, photos)
  • Upvote (like) other people contents
  • Comment on other people's posts
  • Have discussions, share opinions etc!

Yup, basically it's the very same thing you're doing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc all along!

The only difference? For once you can earn a nice income on the side!

Sign up for a free Steemit account, and you can thank me by coming back and upvoting this article. And guess what, you will earn Steem too for doing that! #awesome

I was so much in blogging on Wordpress but was not successful. I changed my decision and joined Steemit.com. The U-turn is really paying me off now. The money which I could not earn in 1 year is earned in one month and I am so happy to be a part of this great community.

I have the best motivation from @TeamMalaysia & especially @TeamMalaysiaBabes. They welcome me to the group with open arms and have also given good advise. Go Steemians!!
