Mini Motivation #111 - The Skin Rash Your Great Great Grandmother Had

in #psychology6 years ago

Imagine this: a hundred odd years ago, a great great grandmother had a bad skin rash after returning from working the fields one day. She applied some ointment on it, hoping it would go away. Unfortunately, it didn't. As a matter of fact, it gotten worse, so she just tried other medicinal methods she knew, but still the rash remained. Over time, she knew she just had to continue treating it, but decided not to make sure a big fuss about it.

She grew old, living until age 95. The skin rash was still there until the day she died. It was then discovered that it was a form of skin cancer.

Fast forward to today, we're more well educated, more well exposed. When we see even a small skin rash, our minds sometimes will go ballistic, thinking of the worst. The family genes of having skin cancer had finally showed it's creepy head! We started fearing our deaths, or the bad days to come. We let worry affect our jobs, we let turmoil ruin our day, we let fear withold your love from our families.

With massive uncertainty, we finally went to the doctor, something we have procrastinated for a long while, afraid of being given the bad news. After a few checks, it turned out to be nothing more than a case of infection.

When I was first told of these two scenario, like you have might, I saw the irony of them. Firstly, the people of the old, despite being uneducated to diagnose themselves, decided to just brush of a life threatening decease, and just focus on living as usual. In the second case, because of "education", it tormented us even before we validated anything, and the fear even held us back from going to direct sources to find the truth.

What do you think about the two scenarios though? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Mini Motivation is my own daily strategy to inspire myself. Mostly 3-minute reads.

From Motivation, we gain Inspiration. From Inspiration, we achieve Momentum. And the rest, they say, is history.

Hope it helps nudge you a bit too in the right direction.

Oh it did? Let me know in the comments, and of course an upvote would be a nice motivation for me. :)

Stay awesome!

Wait, why's Mav posting on Steemit nowadays?

Well, unlike other blogging and social media platform, Steemit is the only platform that allows me to earn cryptocurrency when I engage with it. Yup, one Steem is about USD5, and you, too, can earn Steem Dollars every time you:

  • Create content (articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, photos)
  • Upvote (like) other people contents
  • Comment on other people's posts
  • Have discussions, share opinions etc!

Yup, basically it's the very same thing you're doing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc all along!

The only difference? For once you can earn a nice income on the side!

Sign up for a free Steemit account, and you can thank me by coming back and upvoting this article. And guess what, you will earn Steem too for doing that! #awesome

I would not compare the gene of the grand mother used in the story to our gene because theirs was definitely stronger. And I think it's because of our education that we are able understand these sicknesses and find their cure.

Sure! Thanks for the comment. Appreciate your view on this.
