Explaining the Watching The Watchers flag visualization
As you might have noticed, after a rather long pause, the Watching The Watchers daily postings of top downvoters and top downvotees of the day, has been reestablished and has moved from being piggybacked on the @croupierbot account, to my new @pibarabot account.
One other thing that has changed is that I now try to update the post with a visualization. While most of the visualization generation has now been automized, there still is some manual work needed, so after the automated post is done, I'll try to get the visualization in there as soon as possible, what should be less than an hour after the initial post on most days.
As I've made a set of consecutive updates to the representation, I thought it might be a good idea to discuss what the different elements of the visualization mean.
Color of the nodes
The vizualization uses three node colors.
- Green for accounts that are affected by top X downvoting interactions.
- Red for accounts that have delt out top X downvoting interactions.
- Yelow for accounts involved in high powered flag wars. Those have both dealed out and received powerfull downvotes.
So in the above image we see @camilla (red) deal out one or more powerful downvotes to @fekaromer (green). And we see something that would likely include retaliatiation downvotes between @morseke1 and @kriptonoob.
Node shape and filling
The visualizations use the shape of the nodes to denote fish size.
Redfish
If your steem power is below the magic one mega vest, or about 500 SP, your account is what is refered to as a redfish. The visualization denotes red-fish by using non-filled rounded shapes for the nodes.
Minnows
If your vesting power is somewhere between 1 MegaVest and 10 Megavest, your account counts as a minnow. We use the non-filled octagon shape to denote minnow accounts.
Dolphins
For dolphin accounts, account with 10 upto 100 MVest of vesting power, we use a filled variant of the octagon.
Orca's
Even bigger than the dolphins, an Orca account, an account with 100 upto 1000 MVest, is denoted with a filled double octagon.
Finaly, the bigest fishes of them all, the whales with a vesting power of more than a GigaVest are denoted as filled tripple octagons.
Comultative votes
The blue arrows represent the comulative downvotes over a 24 hour period given by one specific account to an other specific account. Thicker blue lines mean more powerfull dowvotes.
Puppeteers
Red lines are used not to denote downvotes, but to denote relationships between accounts. The fields proxy and recovery_account in an account its meta data will often indicate a very close relationship between accounts. As shown above, you may see mere minnows seemingly in control of even a whale account. These links seem crucial to understanding the flag wars.
Daily posts
If you like seeing these visualizations, please consider following @pibarabot, as there will be a new, mostly automates, post every day. The images may be used for other purposes, in fact, I would love to see a thorough analysis post based on and making use of these visualizations. No need to ask me for permission to use the images or nothing. A mention of source would be appreciated though if only so I'll notice your post being there for me to gain new insights from.
