One Idea

Unfortunately, in our society, war has become a huge business. If the U.S. just quit war, the country would fail shortly thereafter. Too much of American's wealth is generated by the several war industries, from aerospace to weapons to uniforms and supplies. If all of those industries had to fire their workforces , a new depression would plague the country for years if not decades.

The only feasable way for us to stop the wars is to get the industries that supply the weapons and supplies of war to retool into making other things. They need to make things that progress our society instead of killing it.

I have thought long and hard about this problem, much of it at traffic lights in the middle of the night with no opposing traffic to have given me the red light in the first place. If I don't think positively in these moments, I will surely go insane. Well, more insane.

Today we have smart phones, smart cars, smart bombs, smart t.v.s, smart contracts, and many other "smart" ideas. We have the dumbest traffic system, however. Some lights change when you get there, some are on timers, some I can't explain except to say I think they hate us all. Why do we not have smart traffic lights? It would be easy to do, the people making missiles and other sensor bearing weapons could supply the sensor systems. You put the sensors on the traffic lights, and make the sensors change the light as you come up to it, and then you don't need to stop unless there are cars coming through the light or are closer than you are to their light.

This would solve a lot of traffic issues and lower the overall pollution by cutting down on stop and go traffic. It would give weapons manufacturers something productive to do with their already built products and it would be something they could sell worldwide with pride. The government could sponsor the work, because it would be cheaper than war, and we could keep more of what we earn due to the savings. It would create jobs as well. We would need people to install and maintain the sensors and people to write the programs and improve them.

Aerospace could concentrate on moving people faster and more efficiently and put their research and development into space travel as well.

People having more money would lead to more leisure time so a lot of the supply manufacturers could just make their product a little prettier and sell it to the many more campers we would have.

I know that as long as all the other countries have machines of war, there will need to be some weapons, and this will keep the industry alive, but if they would turn most of it into infrastructure and life improvement projects, we would all benefit.

There are many more solutions to this problem. These are just a few ideas I wanted to share. I believe that if we come together and think solutions instead of complaining about our problems, we can change the world.
