A New Adventure!
New Park New Trail
Hello all! I hope this finds you healthy, wealthy, and wise. Today I would like to shar my first adventure on a new trail. My two youngest and I ventured out on a new (to us) hiking trail. We were looking for the elusive Prairie Rattlesnake and other interesting wild creatures. We didn't end up spotting any snakes, but, we had a great time anyway.
We found a ripe fruit on a prickly pear cactus and I couldn't resist tasting it and letting the girls experience it for the first time. We all loved it and are on the lookout for more. Maybe some prickly pear jelly?
If you have never had it, the fruit of the prickly pear cactus reminds me of a cross between a grape and a plum. It is sweet and light and very juicy. I highly recommend it. Do mind the prickles.
We discovered a small, shallow pond on our adventure. We actually saw fish swimming under the surface, but, there was a man fly fishing and we didn't want to disturb him and went no closer.
We saw some beautiful flowers growing everywhere we went. This is great because it keeps the bees happy and lets them store some precious honey for winter.
Here is a busy bee taking a water break by the creek.
This little waterfall sounded so peaceful.
All in all it was a wonderful way to kill a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon. Our mission went unaccomplished, but, we had a lot of fun trying. We will have to fish that pond soon.
My children are learning a real appreciation for the outdoors and all of the wonders that nature provides for us all. That makes me feel like not only a good parent, but, a good human. Hopefully, this will inspire someone to get their kids off of their screens and show them some real live life. I will see you next time, thanks for reading!
