Multiplying by four now made easy using this simple trick
By just looking at the picture above, I believe that that you should have gotten the main idea of this trick.
But if not let's see if I can make a better explanation.
Firstly, we all know that all the result we get when multiplying by four is also a multiple of two that's it can be completely divided by two without a reminder or decimal.
It is also proved mathematically that the sum of two and two is four.
So therefore, when you are given or told to multiply any number by four, you can easily get the answer off hand by just multiplying the number by two in two places, then summing both answers to actually give you a multiple of four.
So let's take a look at this easy example.
Let's assume you are given 8 X 4
Which is also the same as 8 X 2 X 2 that's when 4 us divided into two
We add a bracket then it becomes this (8 X 2) X 2
But we can also prove that when 2 is multiplied by a number is also the same as adding the number in by it's self (eg 5 X 2 = 5 + 5).
Using this theorem above 👆 we can also prove that (8 X 2) X 2 = (8 X 2) + (8 X 2) which is = (16) + (16) then we will have our final answer be equal to 32.
I hope I have completely explain everything there in the picture above but if you think I haven't your comment will be highly appreciated.
You can also help your child too by teaching them this trick
