You Either Love It Or You Hate It - Flush by Daniele Luppi/Parquet Courts feat. Karen O

I heard this song on the way to work listening to my fave LA radio station, KCRW, and thought it was a slight departure from what they usually play. I thought to myself, "Hmm....I bet a lot of people would think the guitar on this is too rough and think this it like hot garbage....but I'm really digging this!"

Right as I thought that to myself a telekinetic event happened. The DJ playing the song, Jason Bentley, said "Yea that was Flush by Daniel Luppi & Parquet Courts featuring Karen O....you know people seem to either really hate it or they love it, I'm one of those people that loves it!" He also mentioned that he was talking to Daniele Luppi about the song once and learned that the band did it in the first take! Which is really rare when recording.

The grooving bass in the background coupled with the stomping drum rhythm, are enough to get me moving. Combine that with Karen O's punky attitude and voice inflection - that's a badass combination in my opinion. I even like the off kilter guitar work by Parquet Courts here. Just in case anyone isn't familiar with Karen O, she's the front woman for the iconic New York garage punk band Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who had a lot of success in the mid 2000s with songs like this and this.

The album that it comes from is called Milano, and it was inspired by the hedonism and excess of the 1980's in the city of Milan. I get that because it really makes me feel like a drunk model sloshing around with my drunk model friends, trying to get from one trendy spot to the next.
