Although Buterin's announcement only confirmed some minor changes from the previous year, it has sparked significant interest in the crypto community.
Buterin's roadmap emphasizes Ethereum's sustainable development through six main components, namely The Merge, The Surge, The Scourge, The Verge, The Purge and The Splurge. Accompanied by annotated graphs and diagrams, this strategy comprehensively details Ethereum's future. “As Ethereum's technical path continues to strengthen, there are few changes,” said Buterin.
This shows the maturation of the network's technical direction, with a focus on refining rather than overhauling systems.
Financialization: A Turning Point in the Journey
An important element of the 2024 roadmap, The Merge, represents a significant shift in Ethereum infrastructure. In September 2022, Ethereum underwent this transformation, integrating its mainnet with the proof-of-stake (PoS)-based Beacon Chain.
