Rencong dan Awal Mula Cerita Aceh Pungoe | Rencong, Required Sultan, Forbidden Netherlands

RENCONG Aceh terkenal sebagai senjata pamungkas sejak era Kerajaan Samudera Pasai. Namun, lebih populer di era Kerajaan Aceh Darussalam. Pernyataan itu disampaikan Ketua Laboratorium Sejarah, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (FKIP) Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh, Husaini Ibrahim, Rabu (6/9/2017).

“Era Kerajaan Aceh Darussalam itu bahkan ada undang-undangnya. Ada 21 perintah sultan saat itu, salah satunya memerintahkan agar seluruh rakyat menggunakan rencong saat berpergian,” sebut Husaini.

Dampaknya, sambung Husaini, rencong bukan lagi menjadi senjata untuk keberasaan istana. Namun juga menjadi senjata yang sering terlihat disampir pinggang pria dewasa Aceh.

“Rincong (rencong) ini pakaian kebesaran sultan. Namun, karena ada undang-undang itu rencong semakin merakyat, digunakan kapan saja, dimana saja, ke sawah pun bawa rencong, itu lumrah saja,” terang Husaini.

Dia menjelaskan, di era Belanda mulai memasuki Aceh, rencong sempat dilarang oleh pejabat kolonial. Pasalnya, kasus-kasus penikaman marsose (prajurit Belanda) kerap terjadi saat itu. Dan, penikaman itu dilakukan oleh rakyat yang anti kolonial dengan menggunakan rencong.

Karena tindakan itu lah, sambung Husaini, Belanda melabelkan masyarakat Aceh dengan sebutan Aceh Pungoe (Aceh gila). Keberanian rakyat Aceh menikam Belanda hanya dengan senjata tradisional itu dianggap sebagai kegilaan. Sebaliknya tentara Belanda berani dengan rakyat Aceh lengkap dengan senapan.

“Karena itulah Belanda melarang rakyat bawa rencong. Semua dirazia. Kalau ditangkap, dampaknya bisa bahaya sekali, habis rakyat itu dihukum sama Belanda,” terangnya.

Perbedaan rencong yang digunakan oleh rakyat biasa dengan para pembesar kesultanan dan kaum kaya Aceh adalah pada bahan bakunya. Jika rakyat, lazimnya menggunakan besi biasa. Namun, jika sultan dan pengusaha kaya, menggunakan gading gajah pada gagangnya, bahkan ada yang dibalur emas.

“Tidak jarang dulu itu kita temui rencong dibalur emas, ada juga yang dari tembaga, perak dan lain sebagainya. Ini menunjukan prestise identitas penggunanya. Kalau rakyat biasa, ya bahan baku rencongnya besi biasa saja,’ sebutnya.

Namun, soal fungsi, sambung Husaini, semua itu mengacu pada senjata untuk melumpuhkan lawan. “Misalnya rencong yang mencungnek, itu agar mudah mencabut rencong ketika telah ditikam ke lawan. Semua jenis itu tujuannya agar mudah digunakan saja. Tak ada tujuan lain,” katanya.

Unsur Islam
Secara filosofis, kata Husaini, model rencong mengandung unsur keislaman yang kental. Hal itu sejalan dengan prinsip kerajaan Aceh dengan menganut sistem pemerintahan Islam.

“Lihat saja bentuknya. Itu dapat ditafsirkan bahwa mengandung makna Bismillah, disana mencerminkan huruf hijaiyah ba, sin dan lam di sana. Itu maknanya Bismillah sesungguhnya. Sejauh pengetahuan saya begitu,” ungkapnya.

Perubahan penggunaan senjata tradisional itu menjadi souvenir, sambung Husaini terjadi era 1945, setelah Indonesia merdeka. Ketika pejabat negara mengunjungi Keresidenan Aceh saat itu, salah satu souvenir yang diberikan adalah rencong. Dari situlah, rencong dijadikan souvenir.

Namun, Husaini menyayangkan literature soal rencong sangat langka di tanah air. Dia menyebut hanya dua penulis dan penikmat sejarah yaitu Teuku Harun Keuchik Leumik dan almarhum Tgk Samsuddin yang pernah menulis soal rencong.

“Ada baiknya, ini pemerintah mendanai penulisan sejarah. Agar generasi kita tahu bahwa rencong itu pernah sangat fenomenal di bumi nusantara ini,” sebutnya.

Untuk melestarikan rencong, dia menyarankan pemerintah membantu para pengrajin rencong dengan memodernisasi peralatan yang digunakan. Mereka, kata Husaini perlu dilatih agar bisa terus menghasilkan kreasi rencong modern.

“Ini perlu campur tangan pemerintah, agar terus lestari. Tidak bisa dilepas begitu saja pada pengrajin,” pungkasnya.

"That's why the Dutch forbid people to bring rencong. All raided. If arrested, the impact could be very dangerous, the people were punished by the Dutch, "he explained.

Islamic Elements
Philosophically, said Husaini, rencong model contains a thick Islamic element. This is in line with the principle of the kingdom of Aceh by embracing the system of Islamic government.

"Just look at the shape. It can be interpreted that contains the meaning of Bismillah, there it reflects the hijaiyah ba, sin and lam there. That's what Bismillah really means. As far as I know so, "he said.

To preserve Rencong, he advised the government to help the craftsmen rencong by modernizing the equipment used. They, Husaini said need to be trained in order to continue to produce modern rencong creations.
