The oldest car
In 1906, count de Dion sold La Marquise to Henri Doriol, an officer of the French army, whose descendants owned the car until 1987. The next owner, who restored the car and brought it into working condition, was Tim Moore — a member of the English club of classic cars. In 2007, Moore sold La Marquise for $ 3.63 million to John o'quinn, a collector from Texas. Most recently, on October 8, 2011, the oldest car was put up by the heirs of O'quinn, who died in 2009, at auction, where it was sold for $ 4.62 million. Of course, La Marquise is not the most expensive vintage car in the world, but the price is impressive.
The car, or rather the steam car has two independent drives, four seats and a hundred eighty-liter water boiler, which must be melted with coal. Without refueling the oldest car could drive about 36 kilometers. The maximum speed, which developed La Marquise almost 60 km / h, it happened in 1887, during the world's first car race. Twice this car became the winner of Pebble Beach Concours d " Elegance-the famous design exhibition.
