Old Pottery Project: The Mouse Infested Pot

in #art9 years ago

I took a beginners pottery class around 14 years ago and I loved it. I loved making things with my hands and enjoyed making little animals with clay to decorate pots and plates. This is one of my favorite pots I made. It's not the best quality but for the first time making a clay coil pot I had a lot of fun.

Found in a box I pulled from storage, it's a bit dusty and needs a good cleaning.

Mouse Lost An Ear

We were assigned to make coil pots where 3 coil pots link up and twirl together. I thought it looked ugly. For a beginners class no one's looked pretty. I decided to stick some little mice in there as a joke. I thought the mice would be funny and my instructor laughed when he went to put my pot in the kiln to bake. My pot was the most original and was the least bad looking of the group.

Should Have Glazed It To Protect It From Water

IMG_8004.JPG

I'm trying to figure out how to clean it. I'm afraid to get it wet because I don't want to damage it. I didn't use a waterproof glaze. I need to get some q-tips at the store to get in the crevices. It's got those delicate ears and tails so I need to be careful not to break it.

Thanks for taking another adventure with me into things I've found in storage.

It's nice to finally have a house where I can see all my old stuff from the past.

This is adorable! You should get back to making this! I love the tails on the mice :) You should use a microfiber cloth, that will pick up all the dust and then a nice blast from your hair dryer!

I love it! Especially the mice 🐭
