I'm Going To Build A Kitchen Table
I have absolutely no idea how to build a kitchen table but I'm going to teach myself how to do it. I have a dream kitchen table that I've always wanted to build. I've wanted to build this table for over 10 years but it's one of those projects you have to wait until you are in the right point of life to take on.
I found my dream table in an old copy of a Popular Science book.
The book has all kinds of furniture projects and gives you plans on how to build them. When I was a kid I loved looking at all the furniture, thinking it was cool to see how dressers, cabinets, and more were put together. I always wished I could grow up and buy power tools and build my own furniture. Of course I was a girl so no one ever encouraged me in that area as a youngster. Now that I'm older and have my own money I've bought some nice power tools and have taught myself to use them.
This book has a copyright of 1988.
Because the book is from the 80s most of the furniture is out of style these days.
This particular table I always loved and really want to build all these years later.
It's #3 in the pictures. It's suppose to be an outdoor table but I just really like the design. I like how the wood goes in different directions. I like how they used different colors of stain so the table is different colors.
Here are the plans to build it. It has all the measurements of the wood the materials needed to build it.
Now that I own my own house I'm ready to build my table. I just need a few more power tools to do it and I'm super excited!

Share a picture of the table you want to build.... Maybe I can help. Followed you so I can see it when you post. I've got a little bit of experience working with wood. (My Wife really likes my wood too :) )
Lol. I'll ignore that last bit about your wife. lol. The table I want to build is in the second from the last picture with the big #3 on it. Not sure when I'll start on my project but I'm at least trying to figure out a plan for making it. Thanks for offering to help. I gave you a follow back.
Wow you picked a complicated one!!! What tools do you have???
I'm hoping to build one myself this Winter as well. Not the same, a "Mission style" farm table. Materials are out of my financial reach so far though Oak is expensive. I'll share a blog and video about a woodworking tool score I made recently!!!
It's great to have a goal and know that you're actually going to accomplish it!!! All the best and I'm sure you'll share the results in a future Steemit post.
Up-voted and re-steemed.
You got this! Can't wait to see the process! Exciting to be in the planning stages of a brand new (old) project!!
I've been a woodworker for 20 yrs now. Yes I taught myself. I talked to other professionals, read everything I could get my hands on and did a lot of trial and error. Now 20 yrs later I have earned the reputation of being a magician with wood. People always bring me their most difficult projects because I'm the only one who finds a way of doing them. Good luck with your project. If you have questions or need tips don't hesitate to ask. One tip stay away from Minwax products especially the stain. They are bottom of the barrel products.
Thank you! I gave you a follow in case I need help. I'm glad I have someone to ask for advice. I'm pretty good at teaching myself new skills. This week I taught myself how to run wiring through walls. I taught myself how to refinish furniture, quilt, build model cars, all kind of technology stuff, etc. Building actual furniture is a new skill though. I might start off building something simple like a bookshelf before I try my table. I bought 30 old pallets so I've got practice wood for some small projects.
That is a big project!! I don't like to work with wood that much - you have to be so accurate. Hope you will have a lot of fun building this.
OK, friend,
I'm really excited now for you as well... This sounds like a fabulous project!
Looking forward to reports as "the build" progresses! ;)
😄😇😄

Go for it! I had that same book...or my parents did anyway lol and it was also a dream of mine to do the same thing. Teach myself little projects here and there.
That's a beautiful table Marx! I love it to and how proud will you be when your family sits at it that you made it! Go get your tools girl! The time is now!❤️
I like the overall design. For my own the boards would be painted/stained with bright alternating colors. Or colors fading into each other clockwise. Nothing gets left brown on my watch... currently painting my pantry cupboard purple.
How fun is this! I can't wait to see the finished product :)
