Sunflower is a herbaceous plant of the asteraceous family, with the scientific name helianthus annuus, characterized by yellow flowers, edible fruits and robust and erect stems. It receives this name thanks to the properties that this plant possesses when it is young and that allow it to turn in the direction of the sun's rays (heliotropism), and thus take advantage of its virtues.

It is a plant native to North and Central America, where it has been cultivated since ancient times, approximately 3000 years ago. Later, sunflower cultivation spread throughout the world at the beginning of the 16th century, after the colonization process.

Girasol es una planta herbácea de la familia asterácea, de nombre científico helianthus annuus, que se caracteriza por tener flores amarillas, frutos comestibles y tallos robustos y erguidos. Recibe este nombre gracias a las propiedades que posee esta planta cuando es joven y que le permiten girar en dirección de los rayos del Sol (heliotropismo), y de esta manera aprovechar de sus virtudes.
Es una planta originaria de Norte y Centroamérica, donde ha sido cultivada desde tiempos antiguos, aproximadamente hace 3000 años. Luego, el cultivo del girasol se expandió por el mundo a comienzos del siglo XVI, tras el proceso de colonización.
