Hello mates, there is another interesting art challenge by @jnart. You are not supposed to try hard to create something beautiful this time. Your art should be ugly. It was really a challenge for me, because I used to draw or paint things I find out nice.

So what is ugly art? How can be art ugly? Well, there are more ways in my opinion. It can be ugly in theme, technique or display. There are also more words inside of "ugly". It can be disgusting, ill, mad, dirty and so on. It is how we feel about it. Through the history there were different views on beauty. Think about Baroque for example. Not everything from it seems to be ugly now, but some things are. Those big wigs full of lice, white powder on faces, pantyhose and clothes full of ornaments and ribbons also for men. It is not trendy nowadays, but it was once.

It is interesting that at some time the majority of the population agrees on what is beautiful and what is not. In music there are tones which shouldn´t be played together, because they sound false and unpleasant. It is the same for me in art. When we put tohether some shapes and colors which do not fit together some mess appears. There are studies why puppies and kittens are cute for us. Characteristics like big eyes, chubby cheeks and giggling in infants are all designed to encourage others to look after them, because we want to take care of what we like. So when I wanted to create some ugly art, I told myself, it will be an animal. I was searching for some animal most people considered ugly.

I found Chinese Crested dog. Some of them are not that bad, but we can imagine what would make them uglier. This kind of dog is quite small, with longer hair only on their head, legs and tail and narrow nose. If you search for this dog you will find pictures of some with their tongue out. It looks really mad. So, here is my painting: Mad Chinese Crested dog.

I used black liner and watercolors. It is on the paper A5.
