Predestination (Film): Review.

in #film5 years ago (edited)

Ethan Hawke, actor always willing to participate in quite varied projects, in this film he plays a very particular character, probably one of the most complex characters in the history of movies, and time travel. Predestination shows us a trip that is really worth seeing. Yesterday I took a look again, so today I decided to write about it.

Year: 2014
Category: Science Fiction, Thriller.
Director: The Spierig Brothers.
Cast: Ethan Hawke, Sarah Snook, Noah Taylor.

Plot

Ethan Hawke plays a temporary agent, a policeman in charge of preventing crimes before they occur. During a trip to the 70s to stop the so-called "Fizzle Bomber", an individual who is provoking attacks throughout the country, is made to pass for the bartender of a bar, where a man tells an extraordinary story.

Opinion

I remember seeing the Blu-Ray of this movie in a relative's house, I never asked anything about the movie to him, but every time I went to his house I saw the poster of the movie. One day looking for movie recommendations on the Internet I found one of Predestination, I did not even read the plot, so much suggestion made me go to buy the movie, I had to see it. I started watching the movie without knowing anything about it, and although it's good to see a movie based on great reviews and confirm that your intuition was correct, it can not be compared to the feeling of watching a movie that, either because of its bad reviews or because you have no idea what you'll see, and it's better than you expected. That's what happened to me with Predestination. And that's the reason why I've written a plot that does not reveal much of the movie, so if you've read this, and you have not seen the movie, I recommend you look at it without even seeing the Trailer before you continue reading.

The film makes use of Novikov self-consistency principle and Solipsism, which gives philosophical and scientific depth to the plot, something that is sometimes missed when we see films of this style.

It is a film with a complex structure, but it is not as complicated to understand as it may seem at first. It is simple but at the same time it is a gibberish to unravel, a kind of huge snake that bites itself its tail, a huge temporal paradox in which each act has its justification to understand the whole plot. Along the way, this leaves too many clues scattered, which can make it somewhat predictable. But in general, the film is a surprise within the genre, being essential for all lovers of intelligent science fiction.

Finally, Predestination is an original film that fascinates people who like science fiction movies. Some people like it more than others, but the film is perfectly recommended.

It is a fascinating film in his message, entertaining, short and with good performances by Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook. Highly recommended.
