Stop Complaining About Whales

in #steemit10 years ago (edited)

A lot of people are complaining about whales. Saying: It's not fair, or: Only a few people are getting huge payouts every day, and sometimes it's even the same people over and over. But this platform has only been paying since July 4th. The people mining the coin and developing the site have been doing all that for around 6 months. Then there were even people posting on the site accumulating rewards, but not being paid yet, before the July 4th launch. Don't be mad at all of them for being here longer. You've probably been here like 2 days, or a month at the most.

Become a Witness

You might not like this, but some witnesses are making over $4,000 a day just mining. If you want that guaranteed, go campaign to be a witness, give people a reason to vote for you and set up a node. Here is what a Witness does everyday.

Sure, $4,000+ is a lot of money, so they better do what they do well, and in the spirit of the platform they ought to spend a little time, or at least set up a bot that votes a few times a day while they are mining. But when you say "the 1% and the 99%" you are implying, and some people are literally saying, that whales are hording wealth. Some of those people are investing real Money to achieve that. There are more Bitcoin Millionaires than most people realize, and there are a lot of Bitcoins in countries that don't speak English.

Moon Cycles

If you don't get noticed for your first few days, that's just what happens. This platform now has almost 40,000 people and growing with thousands and thousands of posts on it every day. So if your first day no one sees your post, but some girl's intro gets voted up to $10,000, that's just what happened. Keep posting good content and be happy to get hundreds of dollars for free over your first week or two weeks, and be really happy when you get a free $1,000 or $2,000. It's your first month. In a year you will have closer to $50,000 or $100,000 (50-100 $1,000+ posts is not bad for 365 days, you don't have to post everyday, but if you post regularly that is achievable. So don't get mad your first 7 days, or 30 days when you aren't on the trending page. How much has Facebook paid you?

And, this isn't even going to last a year. This JUST STARTED JULY 4th. Give it 1 more month, maybe 2 or 3 at the most and there are going to be so many Dolphins that they are going to be as talked about as Whales. How do you think the Dolphins feel when you talk about Whales all the time and complain about Whales and say "Minnow Power". They were just recently in your same situation.

Give it a few months to get to the point where there is a Cooking Dolphin community, a Travel Dolphin community, a Makeup Dolphin community, a Marijuana Dolphin community, a Cars Dolphin community, a Religious Dolphin community, a Gardening Dolphin community, a Beer Making Dolphin community, a Cats/Dogs Dolphin community(s) etc etc etc. Which will only take a few months. Then you will be more likely to make money everyday instead of a few times a week or once a week. And those Dolphins will create stronger Minnows. And guess what, the Whales will still be upvoting new/creative/helpful people on top of that, in turn creating more Dolphins and more stronger Minnows.

Growing

Just because you may not be able to go and cash out $5,000-$10,000 your first month doesn't mean it's not working, it means you aren't paying attention. You get STEEM Power with those Votes, and STEEM Power isn't just for Voting. It's a forced investment strategy. Most people would come on here and just cash and be gone. I saw it happen with Devtome. I stuck with it for nearly a year until the devs got ban happy and destroyed the population of their own coin, but there were eople that I inveited to use it who were just cashing out and never talking about the coin on Facebook, or posting in the 1 thread Devcoin had for communication between members. Just cashing out. And that hurts the coin if there are no new buyers, but it was so cheap and becoming so popular that there were buyers, up until they starting banning, then everyone dropped them like a hot potato. Steemit won't have that problem, and that's beneficial to you. Your STEEM is stored forever, even when you withdraw, the 2 year Power Down is actually negated, by a factor of 2, because of the close to 90% interest rate on STEEM Power. So you will have the same amount, and even more STEEM than you had yesterday, everyday, forever.

And this website has hardly even gotten into the pool of potential users. Some Bitcoin Users that hate Altcoins might say "Sure it's doing well but can it last?" and they are completely ignoring the fact that hardly anyone uses Bitcoin. I read about a coin called CLAM, and they sent CLAMS to everyone who had a Bitcoin, Litecoin and Dogecoin wallet, all tree, they sent it to every wallet. And some people have multiple wallets/. And it was either 3.1 Millions wallets, or 31 Million wallets. But there are 300,000+ people just in America, and over a Billion people in India and another Multiple Billion in China. So everyone needs to wrap their heads around the fact that no one uses Bitcoins yet. But STEEM is bringing them Cryptocurrencies in a format that is so simplified, that it is going to bring in more people than Bitcoin ever could.

Mass Adoption

When Bitcoin got to be $100-$1000 (I bought in at $30, so I watched this happen) people wanted to know where to get Free Bitcoin. When everyone first heard about Bitcoin they even felt like it was a game token, like "Give me some, it's just a token". And then they wanted to learn about miing, but by that time you had to start buying all kinds of Rigs, and GPUs were fading out, which has completely happened at this point. So everyone was like "Oh, it's something I buy, so that I can buy things, I'll use plastic" and a lot of people didn't understand why anyone would buy it.

STEEM offers what no other coin has ever offered. A completely straightforward signup process, an easy to digest system of value, 3 currencies to stabilize it, and payment for commenting and voting. You don't even have to be creative, or able to write. If you want to just comment, or just vote, you don't really ever have to create content. and you can still make a good amount of STEEM.

Be the Change

Try to look past today, tomorrow, and even next week and next month. And strive for what you want that to look like.

Sort:

People should make some Dolphin Memes. Soon Dolphins are going to be like the Silent Majority.

And anyone who is part of other Social Media sites should teach other people and create communication channels of the other sites, so that people from Steemit can communicate better. It's like if we all didn't have phones and writing letters, which is something that should be brought back in the World, but there should be a way to communicate with people you meet on here. And right now the best way to do that is to, for example, go to Reddit and tell people in a certain Subreddit, or people in a few Subreddits about it, and people can use both sites. And people on Twitter can communicate on Twitter, YouTube Hangouts, SoundCloud, Instagram, etc. people who use each platform can still use the others, they can just add some of their best content to Steemit. Once Steemit fully launches there will probably be a Followed Feed, there is already a Follow Button. And that will work something like a Facebook Wall Probably.

I am waiting for the Dolphin community to grow. They will bring one big value to this platform. That is "diversification". These Dolphins with different interests will appreciate different and diverse content.

Once diverse content start getting recognized there will be an influx of valuable content which in turn will make this platform valuable.

I am hopeful for that situation to arrive soon. Then reading on steemit will also be a good experience.
