Facebook Groups Could Charge Users In The Future

in #socialmedia8 years ago (edited)

There was a story in Helsingin Sanomat about Facebook intending to enable moderators of Facebook groups to start charging subscribers money for the purpose of rewarding the moderators. The story is in Finnish only. Joni Savolainen, a moderator of the group Kyberturvallisuus (Cybersecurity) considered Facebook's plans to be a harbinger of Facebook increasingly being a paid service in the future.

I remember telling some of my friends and acquaintances on Facebook about Steem and Steemit last spring. A lot of them were highly sceptical and I heard comments along the lines of calling it a bubble from some. One guy who I knew from Usenet news from way back a quarter of a century ago and who used to belong to the same circle of bloggers on blogspot.com commented that he thought it was harmful to earn money from any creative pursuit (he expresses strange ideas like that, I suspect partly just for provocative purposes) and that he did not have any use for the pennies that could be earned by blogging anyway. I suspect even having lost one friendship partly because of endorsing Steem - this guy did not like the lack of a possibility censorship on the blockchain. Among the people who I talked about Steem were a couple of guys who are "critical intellectuals" who hold anti-American views. Yet, when presented with actual choice they are unwilling to do anything. I can't take such people seriously.

Now I wonder how far the public is willing to go in their masochism and desire to bend over and take it from powerful institutions and authorities. You can rest assured that Facebook or any of the dominant corporate giants on the Internet will not stop at going to the utmost lengths to data mine and profile their users whether or not, with the introduction of paid services, such a thing is an economic necessity in their business model or not. And let's not forget their collusion with American intelligence organizations. Half the population of the world have accounts on Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Twitter, Instagram and so on. All these social medias are powerful tools used by the US government to keep tabs on sentiment in foreign countries and in America, and, I believe, perhaps also to manipulate it in subtle ways by influencing the users' news feeds on those platforms. American intelligence organizations probably have very detailed information about every aspect of the very personal lives of foreign politicians of the younger generation that have used these platforms from an early age on - from the time before they became political leaders. Nothing, absolutely nothing that goes through American Internet corporations is safe from the clutches of the US government or large American corporations that agree to collude with the government most likely because of the services the government is able to provide in the field of industrial espionage. Such is the deplorable state in which centralized world of sphere of Internet services is today. To me, the idea of paying a single cent for using something like Facebook is totally out of this world. The price is already very high collectively, albeit not widely understood by the public.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

It is good to know this news, Facebook will have to be careful with their policies because if they continue to appear platforms like Steemit will be without users in a short time.

hope so! and we will be first takers @liznellcastillo

It is a crazy idea that goes backwards (I do not know how it is the word). As you mention it is already very expensive, and now you have to pay? ... But they are the ones who should do it. All this time they are They have enriched the contents of people (I do not use Facebook). This reminds me of one thing I learned from advertising: A long time ago they told me about Amway and how their advertising worked (from person to person) and also in a class of Linus, large corporations spend huge amounts of money on advertising regardless of the quality of the product. The Amway products were very good but people did not know them, and Linus was much better than Windows but advertising was responsible for opaque them. The same is happening with Steemit, Facebook will do the impossible against platforms that reward those who use it.

Hi Markku. I believe the ones who are addicted will pay no matter what. Social media over the next few years will change as we know it and Steemit will be a big player. Not many people know or understand Steemit and it will take some time. Once they know it will be a totally different landscape we will be looking at. I think when the smart media tokens start then we will see user uptake grow rapidly.

Those friends lost their chance and would be far in the levels, if I had paid attention.

Your information and forecasts are always visionary but many times we are afraid to risk that slows us down. There will always be people who invent and take risks

I hope I'm right about the Steem blockchain having a bright future. But that it's easier to earn on it than on any other platform is a fact and there's no reason blog anywhere else.

I hope you are right and this continues its growth because with it we also grow, those of us here in Venezuela are taking advantage of it to help themselves economically. I love writing my nonsense and stories and that's why and the economical thing that my son suggested to me

I use the google translator to answer you, I hope you do it right and understand it correctly. Thanks for answering

Friend your arguments are very solid, and very interesting. As for the friends who did not believe, I assume they were not your friend ..
Now I think you have a lot of followers that probably, we are better friends than those who lost.

I completely agree with your reflection. Social networks specifically Facebook, is a tool to get information about each of us, our moods, our political position and our social status, this is not new and is part of the control of large corporations or political empires

wowo now they want to monetize at any cost! steemit have a good chance since it was first.
