The North Yungas Road in Bolivia was named the deadliest road in the world by Inter-American Bank in 1995

Also known as Death Road, the North Yungas Road used to claim the lives of about 300 lives every year. The road is 56 km stretch of road between La Paz and the town of Coroico. An alternative road was built in the 1990's. It is still frequently used by daredevil tourists on mountain bikes.

You can use Google Maps to go on a virtual drive of the road yourselves. Driving it would be sheer horror because of the dreadful condition: mud slides, falling rocks, no guard rails, dense fog during the winter months, dirt surface, a width of only three metres and two-way traffic. It was routinely used by buses and lorries before an alternative route was built.

there are a lot of car accidents from where i live. california has a lot of them

too many bad drivers

So, California compares unfavorably to other states?

yup definitely

That does look deadly..
The Jammu Kashmir road is somewhat similar in appearance

I've heard there are roads that are practically just as horrifying as the Road of Death in the Himalayas.

There probably are but man, does that look scary!

Did you take a virtual ride on it? That's effin' murder.

I thought the view would be spectacular touring it with virtual drive but there is much fog haha, I recommend that you advance a lot after kilometer 20 and turn right from that point begin to clear the view, It seems a sick journey but I would not queue to do it.

Its really scary to me by just looking at the picture.

It’s so scary looking because the roads are so tiny and close to the edge of the valley the slightest slip can cause your life. They can at least dig into the mountains or hills to create larger roads.

They did construct a new alternate road. But Bolivia is a poor country. Think what the locals have had to endure all these decades after the road was built in the 1930's.

It is incredible that they have used it despite their high risk. Traveling there must have been a nightmare!!

Not to mention living there! Imagine driving a bus or a lorry for a living there.

Just thinking about it causes me terror!! Since they had no other choice, I imagine that they must have had a great need to travel down that road that was much more important than the fear of the risks to which they were exposed. It must have been a very hard reality :(

I'm not using that road, no thank you! Aaaaa-haaaa!

If it is so dangerous why don't they close the road ?
find a way around it ?
or maybe its not possible ?

I did mention that an alternative road was built. Before that was done, closing it was no option as the road was the only road to a few towns and villages along the way. Also, Bolivia is a poor country and terrain is extremely difficult.
