Good day Steemians,

Have you ever experienced an excruciating pain derived from loss? It could be heartbreak, academic failure, death of a loved one and so on. Well, mine was losing my security passwords of different accounts to hackers. I felt like the world of coming to an end( yeah! It was really a painful experience). Imagine losing your money to fraudsters or hackers? Painful right?. This is not a new issue in the world, many have fallen victims of this, me included, and more would still, unless the necessary procedures are met.

Steemit as a platform for boosting your financial position through creative writings is not excluded.Before you sign up, necessary information are asked ranging from your username to password, after which 5 distinct/ unique passwords are sent to you. You are therefore mandated to safeguard those passwords to prevent a third party from accessing it as failure to do so may lead to you losing your account to hackers and retrieval of such account may be futile especially your private master password and private owner password. Hence, it is essential for every user of STEEMIT BLOCK CHAIN platform to understand the basic security measures on steemit block chain.

THE FIVE(5) KEYS IN STEEMIT BLOCK CHAIN PLATFORM AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

The 5 keys below are the essential and unique keys I stated above that must be safeguarded. Each key had its unique function. They include;

POSTING KEY
As the name implies, this key allows accounts to post, comment and mute other accounts.

ACTIVE KEY
This key is meant for sensitive tasks such as transferring of funds, power up or down transactions, converting Steem Dollars, voting for witnesses, updating profile details and lastly, placing of a market order.

OWNER KEY
This is the most powerful key because it can change any key of an account including the owner key and it is only used to recover compromised account. It is to be stored offline.

MEMO KEY
This key is used for encrypting and decrypting memos when transferring funds. In order to encrypt memo, you are required to use pound/# sign before it.

MASTER KEY
The master password is used to generate all other keys including the Owner Key. The only reason you should use this key is when you are going through account discovery. This is the password given to you upon signing up. It is advisable to use this password to go to your Steemit.com wallet, retrieve all other keys and only use those keys when necessary.

Yes I have. This is the first step I took immediately I gained my master password after signing up.

Absolutely, it is essential to know what those keys are used for and their restrictions as it would help me further in my knowledge about Steemit.

Do you plan to keep your master password?

Yes I do. From the knowledge I’ve gained so far, the master password and every other unique keys are important and they must be kept privately and safeguarded because once a third-party gets access to it, you’re tokens could be withdrawn and your account lost to you. Therefore, it is advisable to safeguard the password both offline and online as penning it down in a secret diary belonging to you, of which I have done.

Yes I do. The steps include;

STEP 2: Click on Steem wallet
STEP 3: Click on Steem balance
STEP4: Click on transfer, the screen shot below shows what will pop up

STEP3: Click on Steem balance
STEP 4: Select power up

In conclusion, the following advise should be adhered to. Firstly, it is necessary to always backup your password. Secondly, avoid disclosing important information to the third party. Furthermore, always power up to 100% for more profit to be attained. Lastly, safeguard your passwords both online and offline .
